    Experience with MRA screen….

I found the original screen on my RD04 somewhat noisy, and having some search on the forum I decided to buy the “touring screen” from MRA. According to the site it is taller than the “old” touring screen and significantly taller than the vario screen. Quality seems really fine, replacing the original screen with the new one was a piece of cake.
I went for the test drive – and than the bad surprise – the new screen is just the best size to direct the full blast of air right onto my visor! It was uncomfortable to drive with open visor even in the town, so strong was the wind! Tried to stand up on the pegs – it was a lot more comfortable.
I am now thinking to end it back to MRA and replace it with the vario screen. However, on the picture the screen looks rather small, the additional spoiler is a tiny appendices. On the pictures in the Forum there are various models for the vario screen. Could anybody advice if it could indeed be a good investment, and if indeed the model has been changed?

    Thanks and best,

    Andras

Hi Andras. Wind noise from the screen is a common problem. I tried a locally made taller (extra 80mm) screen and didn't like it at all. I found that side winds made the screen act like a sail on a boat and the bike move around, uncomfortably so. The standard screen does the same but not as bad. I ended cutting about 80mm off the standard screen and really like it. Noise has also reduced. Cheers from NZ

    Hi mate

i fitted a MRA vario to my bmw r850gs after checking what everybody else thought and it made it much better than the stock screen, i can ride with my visor up at most speed's and have no trouble at all , i have recently purchased a africa twin also, it came with a MRA vario screen fitted and its just as good, i suppose it depends on your height etc i'm about 5.9 so can't say what it would be like for other's, MRA say that because of the opening half way up it helps stop buffeting and it appears to work, at least for me anyway (both screens are the adjustable type)

    cheers anthony

The MRA vario screen on my RD07 is excellent , ..... but the vario screen for the RD04 is a much different design . . . I guess the RD04 screen has'nt been updated to the better design.

I have had a Touring screen, a Standard screen, a Givi tall screen and now a MRA Vario screen on my Transalp and find the airflow a lot better with the Vario compared to the others the only wind pressure I get is on the shoulders which are outside the slip steaming effect of the fairing / screen.
YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE

    Re: Experience with MRA screen….

Thanks a lot for all the replies! It seems that there should be two versions of the vario screen, one for RD 04 and one for RD07. However, on the MRA site there is only one version for both… Could anybody confirm, that indeed there are two versions?
    Thanks,

    Andras

The one for the RD04 has a short spoiler.

The one I have on the RD07a has a much bigger spoiler.

So i cant give any advise re the effectiveness of the RD04 screen.

I got an MRA Vario , for BMW K1200 , and made it work on my AX-1 .

I replaced the upper flap , with a larger one , part of V-strom .

The results are almost great , and there is no way to go back .
BMW K1200R (thats pictures are with the standard flap )

The amazing about the MRA , is the quality of the material it self .

Its also known , that by adding a wind screen , its a limiting factor , about the max traveling speed .

My patented wind screen , looks stable and strong even at 140KM per hour , I can not rum faster ...

In any way , if speed is what matters , then some one should look at sport designs , and not the touring ones .
