Unhappy i have symptoms but no answer

Hi,

Riding the @ today and I lost a little power, the engine note change to a "muffled" sound (through my arrow end can) and had to open the throttle almost fully to maintain 40mph.

I did a ride yesterday about 60miles on country roads and all was fine...pokey as ever, no worries.

My @ has done this before a while back but sorted itself after i gave it some welly on the revs (about 1yr ago).

When the throttle is open then closed onto run off it does pop a little.....

I fitted a new Fuel Pump from the store on here about two months ago.

No electrical faults all is fine on that front.

But it did rain yesterday quite a bit.

Any advice guys would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers is advance.

Re: i have symptoms but no answer

could be any no of things but first thing that springs to mind is that its sounds as if being starved of fuel and maybe caused by pulling a vacuum in the tank, so make sure the air bleed into the tank is not blocked or open filler cap then close and see if problem goes away (will come back) or even try driving with filler cap open / loose so as to let air in

Re: i have symptoms but no answer

Sounds logical to me, but when i filled up with fuel on way home there was no pressure release when the cap was undone, and it was just as bad when i started after filling up,....... pulling out onto a main road from the petrol station with no power hardly..... is a giggle...honest

It could be the REG /REC failing. Sometimes electrics work fine then stop abruptly other times they could give some notice.

Re: i have symptoms but no answer

Will give the fuel pump a go, but should be fine as it's a new unit.

The Electrics Reg rec should also be ok as that is also only about three months old and only done about 1000miles......

the search continues...

Re: i have symptoms but no answer

check the lead from the ignition barrel as it kinks and starts to break - this is what my africa twin did before dying completely some time later......... a replacement lead is quite cheap. (I think) 12 yrs ago..........

Re: i have symptoms but no answer

i am having the same problem , i thought it might be the fuel pump,

have ordered new facet one , I did drain the carbs and found some crud , thought it solved the problem but we are back to square one .
it seems to happen at crusing speed mostly .

was out yesterday for a good spin and all was fine
will see if new pump makes any difference .

Ill be watching this thread with interest ...

Re: i have symptoms but no answer

1. Make sure the battery connections are tight. If they're loose the bike can run badly or cut out altogether.

2. Pull off the low tension spade terminals from the front coil and clean them before re fitting. Any problems here is magnified big time at the exit high tension side, causing the bike to run on one cylinder temporarily. Are the rubber strips on the frame's front down tube both in place. These stop spray/winter salt going onto the connections mentioned.

2000 XRV750 (NO 3), I think I'm getting the hang of them now, must fit the centrestand before the back tyre wears out. Damn, the driveshaft bearing wore out first!
