Stumpy' is thinking along the right lines I think.

    I'd suggest checking the following.

If you have a pattern front sprocket MAKE SURE it is fitted the correct way round. If it is not, the front and rear sprockets will be slightly out of line and there will be a sideways force on the chain causing it not to mesh correctly with the front sprocket.

Remove the sprocket cover, put the gearshift back on, and ride the bike with the cover off. See if this makes any difference. If my chain is too slack, there is a noise on decelation where the bottom of chain rubs along a raised tab moulded into the cover.

Check the sprocket retainer for wear.

Check the chain guides on the swingarm for wear or dirt.

    Good Luck

    Bob

Is it an OEM or after market?
If it is an after market spend a few pennies on an OEM front sprocket and see if that removes the noise.
    No its definately and OEM

    Re: Scratchy Drive Noise?

I'd be amazed if it is this, but I sometimes get what could be described as a scratchy noise on acceleration. It appears around mid revs but passes fairly quickly. After a few head scratches, I worked out that the bash plate was just touching the frame and the vibrations made it rattle.

Like I say, probably a mile off but thought I'd throw it out there !.

    Good luck.

YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE
