back fire

just the last few days after coming in from work and parking up.switch off engine to open gate and jumping back on to start it.....it backfires with a very loud bang...xrv 750 (96 p reg)..bike starts every time no probs and runs fine....its done 79 thou and i fill it up at same petrol station ever week... any advise would be very helpfull...thanks KEVSKY....

could be float needle valve sticking allowing fuel to run into cyl

I have this sometimes, When going home from a night shift a 7am !!! the bike is stone cold. I think its just extra fuel in the exhaust / head ( Remus ) that is ignighting and making the bang. Certanly wakes the birds up......

My ex R80Gs did the same when starting engine-

except it kicked it carbs out!
Very nice in crowded place...

Cured when putted original air filtter in instead of K&N.

I would say thatīs time for a carb clean and inspection. Your carbs (or one of them) are probably overflowing petrol into the cylinders. No petrol dripping from the breather pipe?
