Hi Magwa
Firstly I havn't posted on this site for a couple of years as I was living abroad, and when I came home found I'd managed to forget my Log In and password and have had to re-register, but anyway, if you decide you don't want to do a restoration, please don't break the bike, we need to keep ATs on the road as there's nothing to compare with them.
If you try to break it you'll also find that some bits sell quickly but that you'll still end up with a lot of the bike hanging around your shed or garage collecting dust and/or corrosion.
I should finish my 4th RD07A restoration next week, and am looking for another to work on. There's no money in doing it and I'm not out to make money, but I'm retired and it's a great hobby, so if you decide to part with it, please let me know and I'll take it off your hands at a very reasonable price. Thanks
Hi thanks for the update
Ive just got the waterpump and now will take a 5 day break ( that will be 5 consecutive 12hr days work) as alas I don't retire for another 20 pay packets.
However I've owned some 150 plus bikes in my riding career ( mostly British) and have restored many of them.
I tripped over this bike and subject to the engine making the right noises will be doing it up to road standard.
No rush but getting the parts is not as easy these days
heres my last one before i deserted to the dark side.
If I wanted to go off road I'd use the AT but if I wanted to tour I'd take the BM
And heres the one I'm workin on now

Hi Magwa
Wow, wish I could find one looking that good as a starting point, I must be looking in the wrong places.
The one I'm currently riding I bought as a 2001 RBW model, 24k, one owner, full main dealer service history bike with a wrecked engine! It was only just out of warranty when the big ends expired and as Honda wouldn't fix it the owner dumped it at the botton of his garden inwhere it stayed for the next three years until a very large tree fell on it. That's when he decided to get rid and I stepped in.
I only bought it for spares for another AT I was working on, but amazingly the frame and forks were still straight and although every panel had scuffs from branches and there were two small cracks in one panel not a single lug was broken, and basically with a good shot of T-cut and some Autosol everything, except the wheels, came up really well.
Its currently got an engine from a 2002 year bike which I sourced from a kart. It must be non-standard as its very flat at the bottom end, but seriously fast at the top end and just wants to rev, though it vibrates a lot!
The one I'm just finishing I also bought for spares, basically just an engine and frame and a few boxes of bits, though the engine had recently been apart for new output shaft bearings and as I know the guy who did the work I know it's sound. It's a 1997 V model although it will have 1999 X model bodywork as I managed to find a complete set including tank for £300.
After nine months of looking I've just managed to source a good crankshaft for the 24k dud engine and that's now being rebuilt back to new, i.e. new main and big ends, gudgeon pins, cam chains, valves, springs etc etc, plus the whole engine is being vapour blasted so it will have a polished finish rather than the standard Honda paint job which peels after 2 or 3 years.
My aim is to have a new but updated AT at the end of it all and over the last couple of years I've managed to accumulate most of the stuff I need, but as you say, finding the parts is getting harder and harder.
Chris
Yeah but the other sides not so good.
The black matt paint on the wheels is comming off nicely with nitromore and copius amounts of soapy water
The bash plate is going for bead blasting with a few bits, I got a nce second hand rear carrier from Xander, so things are progressing.
I still haven't got it running as yet, thats set for next set of rest days
