    Successful Installation of Facet Pump

I thought I would contribute this item to encourage anyone worried about installing a Facet 40105 Fuel Pump to their AT.
On Saturday last I was riding back to Cebu City in the Philippines over the Transcentral Moutain Range (bit like a mini Snowdonia) when I smelt the smell of petrol on my RD07 AT! A quick inspection revealed the OEM fuel pump was leaking from the seam which runs round the center of the pump body. Fortunately managed to get back to my mechanic's place in Cebu prior to running out of fuel. I had a Facet 40105 in the topcase and handed it to him with warnings of how difficult it would be to fit inside the rubber retaining ring. He told me no problem and unbelievably 15 minutes later I rode out with the 40105 duly installed and running like a swiss clock. A complete but very welcome anti-climax! Cost of the installation - 150 pesos (2 quid in sterling)! There are a lot of advantages to living in the third world!!!!!! Especially in a place as beautiful as the Philippines!

15 mins??!? Mine took me nearly two hours, although there was lots of standing around shouting at it demanding to know why the rubber holder wouldn't fit (no, not a very intellectual conversation!)

@ Scooter - Yes, thats what I had expected after reading all the horror stories here on fitting the thing! Felt a bit silly after warning him how difficult the job would be. He just sprayed the pump body with wd40, and prised it on with a screwdriver - piece of cake!

Following the advice on here I put a "little" oil on the pump to aid the collar going on. It seems I put too much on as it felt like I was wrestling a greased monkey - I could barely hold on to it let alone do anything useful with it.

Key point - a LITTLE bit of oil!!

Hehe, after me and 2 mates struggled for ages and almost injured ourselves with a screwdriver trying to get the bugger on I decided SCREW IT. Cut the rubber open and taped it to the pump with electrical tape

Fits perfect. Top and bottom rubber clips line up perfectly

Another option is to put the rubber into hot water to soften it a bit, and it will then stretch over quite easily.

Always a bit tricky when you really are putting a square peg in a round hole
