With petrol prices what they are I've been getting very interested in how many miles I get to a gallon of unleaded these days. I posted these results on another thread on gearing, but it occurs to me it might be better to ask the question more widely.
I've been riding rather sedately the last few months - rarely getting up to 70 MPH, around 1/2 of my commute on dual carriageway A-roads, and the rest on country B-roads and city outskirts. As a comparison, I get aproximately 57 MPG keeping to below 70 MPH, rising to 63 if I keep it to 60 MPH. The bike is a 2001 RD07a with > 92,000 miles on the clock, and running lower than standard final drive gearing (15/46 compared with 16/45 standard), standard screen (but non-standard brush guards), a Scotoiler and Continental Escape tyres.
Everyone out there with an Africa Twin, regardless of model or modifications, what MPG are you getting for the kind of riding you're doing? I know Transalps can get around these figures (modified airbox and exhaust might be required on the 650; my old 600s did between 50 and 55 MPG), but what are XRVs really getting??
