    Question Africa Twin MPG

With petrol prices what they are I've been getting very interested in how many miles I get to a gallon of unleaded these days. I posted these results on another thread on gearing, but it occurs to me it might be better to ask the question more widely.

I've been riding rather sedately the last few months - rarely getting up to 70 MPH, around 1/2 of my commute on dual carriageway A-roads, and the rest on country B-roads and city outskirts. As a comparison, I get aproximately 57 MPG keeping to below 70 MPH, rising to 63 if I keep it to 60 MPH. The bike is a 2001 RD07a with > 92,000 miles on the clock, and running lower than standard final drive gearing (15/46 compared with 16/45 standard), standard screen (but non-standard brush guards), a Scotoiler and Continental Escape tyres.

Everyone out there with an Africa Twin, regardless of model or modifications, what MPG are you getting for the kind of riding you're doing? I know Transalps can get around these figures (modified airbox and exhaust might be required on the 650; my old 600s did between 50 and 55 MPG), but what are XRVs really getting??

    Stig,

Like you, I get around 55 - 57 mpg whatever way I ride. Thats on a '97 RD07A with OEM front and 43 rear sprockets fitted, running a mix of tyres at the mo - Anakee front, Tourance rear.

My last @ - a '94 RD07 rarly gave more than 48 mpg when "nursed" along and would drop into the high 30's when ridden enthusiastically!

    Just my mutterings

RD07, 2000 model with standard gearing, road tyres, K&N filter and legal aftermarket exhaust with 85,000 miles up.

I get between 52 and 55mpg. That's mostly 80mph cruising on motorways with a bit of east London filtering thrown in.
3 Africa Twins/280,000 miles. If it's happened to one of mine, it's gonna happen to one of yours.....eventually.

1 Varadero/17,000 miles ridden (of 40,000 miles on the bike), it's all still new to me!

With deformed right hand, MRA screen, Capt. Peaky helmet and seized choke cables I get about 25mpg at 112mph

    Re: Africa Twin MPG

No matter whether I ride the VFR750 or the AT I always seem to get around 10 miles per litre, equivalent to around 45mpg. Considering that I seem to drive the VFR faster, that makes the AT thirstier in my book.

    Re: Africa Twin MPG

Help needed. My RD07 is an import with distance in KM and as an import myself I am used to dealing with litres rather than gallons. How many gallons to a tank? Tank is 23 litres....

    Re: Africa Twin MPG

Around 55 mpg for me with my normal commute on fast-ish A roads plus a bit of town riding. This is with a '02 RD07a with 25k, solo, topbox & 1 pannier, std screen, no other mods.
