    RD04 - strange ?

Got home from a short but very enjoyable ride with WiganChris last night.

parked the bike in the garage and then noticed a very loud bubbling from the petrol tank.

This took the form of a couple of seconds bubbling then all quiet for 30 secs or so then bubble then quiet.

Took the cap off - no difference.

Stood the bike up straight - all quiet

put it back on its side stand - bubbling again - STRANGE

    very slight smell of petrol.

Just before I got home was stuck in roadworks for a while and the biuke got hot and fan came on - if that sheds any clues.

Also bubbles were much less noticeable with petrol taps turned off.

    Ant ideas folks ?

Are you sure it was the fuel and not the battery?

Another member described his battery boiling recently.

99% sure it was coming from the tank

I could feel the vibrations through the tank and as I said the noise seemed to subside when taps were turned off

Could've been the oil cooler. They can make all kinds of weird noises as the oil gurgles out of em.

Could be the heat build-up boiling the petrol in the carbs, and the vapour bubbling back up the fuel lines (seen this before on old cars with carbs near the exhaust manifolds). Don't know if there are any non-return valves in the pump, and it should stop completely when you turn off the taps, so I may be talking out of my orifice again. Be interested to know what you find.

It's the fuel equalizing levels between the sides of the tank. If the fuel level is high, it won't happen. If the fuel level is low, the only route between the two sides of the tank on the RD04 is via the taps so the fuel flows out of one tap, into the Y-piece and into the other when you lean the bike onto the side stand, or lift it off the side stand.

Put some petrol in it and it'll stop
