Question New Facet pump MPG Plummeted

Hi Fitted a New Facet Fuel Pump a while back. top banana really chuffed with it, purchased it from the shop here too and uber quick delivery

Ever since it was fitted the MPG has fallen like a lead balloon.
On normal 60mph riding i will get 124 miles................ to a tank the choke has not stuck at all, so I am looking for advice on how to adjust the carbs, as i think they may have been adjusted to compensate for the failing OEM pump over the years.

Advice Please and also if it is to adjust a screw on the carbs etc, the location of said widget would be really helpful as carbs are alien to me.

I doubt whether the carbs have been re-jetted. My guess would be that the float valves are worn. The additional pressure of the Facet could then be enough to force fuel past them and cause the fuel level to go above the standard level which will make it run rich. Carb strip job.

Ok so a possible carb strip job..... something that can be done on a kitchen table? any special tools needed? or is it just a bit of time and effort and liberal cleaning?

That depends whether you have a wife/partner...

No special tools. The most time consuming bit is getting the carbs off the bike and sometimes getting the choke plungers out is awkward.

Once the carbs are off, a crosspoint screwdriver and a can of carb cleaner will do most of it.

Re: New Facet pump MPG Plummeted

Wife is going away for a few days on business,.....so that just leaves me and the hound.

I will strip them down to the last nut and bolt and dump them in my Sonic Cleaner that i use for my Airbrush equipment.

When they go back together, will i need to adjust the carbs to get the mix right?

sorry for all the questions just don't want to end up with a complete mess and have to hold my head in shame at the garage.

Cheers for all this in advance!!

I'd also replace the needle valve AND reset float height as per manual.. If float height is OK and you still get problems then reduce the working float height (i.e..increase the measurement when you reset the float..)

also check for any leaks at the facet pump union joints themselves, if you have not used any ptfe tape when fitting the unions they may leak past.

Also check to make sure your father in law has not removed your fuel pipe and syphoned 4 litres off for his ride on Lawn Mower, then putting everything back together without letting you know

Highly unlikely I know but I speak for experience
