    wheeeelie school

    A. Is it as easy as it looks?
    B. Am I gonna flunk it and mash my bike?
Ive seen a couple of vidz on youtube but no idea if an AT is any easier/harder than any other bike? They say its about technique so just wondering whethering its worth mashing up my bike over!!

Anyone recommend a brill wheelie school – am down in dorset where we have the south coast wheelie shool but wondered if anyones got any feedback / info / recommended sites to check out etc?l. Keen to get to grips with it once and for all.

...more interestingly, anyone got any decent shots of themselves on an AT with the front wheel flying?

Up... & down. But in the end, its only round & round.

It'd be easier to do with an elephant as a pillion!
I would imagine the weight to power ratio would make them fairly difficult to wheelie in most circumstances, however my other bike........oh my goodness!

    Re: wheeeelie school

I am fairly accomplished when it comes to wheelies as my last bike was a KTM 640, before that I had a CR500 supermoto road legal, before that I had a VOR530SME and before that I had an XR600 with lots of goodies like big bore, cam, pipe etc.

They all wheelied really well. My AT doesn't.

Are you seeing a pattern here?

My advice is if you want to wheelie - get an SM or a dirtbike. Not an AT. It will be expensive if it all goes wrong, they are not really the bike to do it on - I am sure you can but I wouldn't.

    Very wise words futter

I've done this but unitentionally when chasing some sports bikes recently and only for a short distance

Went into a roundabout with 6,000 rpm and on exit was approaching 8,000 rpm in 3rd and the front came up while I was cranked over.

Caught the the 2 sportsbikes though

The bike wasn't wearing the TKCs - that would have been a whole different story. I had the K60s on and was testing suspension adjustment at the rear at the time

    Fixed it for you.

It's not a case of whether we can fix it or not - it's more a case of how fixed would you like it?

The only time I pulled a wheelie I had a 500 Armstrong and I gave it too much throttle pulling away from a lorry it reared up and I needed a change of clothing.
YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE

    Re: wheeeelie school

The only time any of my AT's have wheelied is when I put a brick under the centre stand!!!

I've had a fair few sportsbikes, but am too namby pamby to attempt a minger wheelie! Popped the front up a couple of times on hard acceleration, but not intentionally.

Is the AT much different from an SLR for popping one up!?

I've managed a couple on the SLR without meaning too, setting off from lights a little too quickly. All I can say is thank god I've got a top box on it otherwise I'd have been straight off the back and feeling tarmac!

The SLR is easy to wheelie - I cut my teeth on one of those. You have to bring it up in first and slip it into 2nd as soon as poss and then you are off.
