Today I am mostly fitting head race bearings and brake pads

and fuk me the head bearings were the originals, rusty as fek and seemingly welded in place!

After getting a tad biblical with them I managed to get the head stock collars out, using of all things a crowbar, sounds brutal I know but it caught the lip nicely without catching anything else, a small block of wood later and a quick smack with a rubber mallet and they popped out. The bottom collar was a right fecker. took me two hours to get it off using a wedged drift and a big hammer. Putting it all back together was fine AND I had no bits left over!!

Brake pads were simple and I got a new air filter.

All from Wemoto and delivered in 2 days.

I love my wife she is so understanding, still I am on hols!
When I grow up ..... yeah right!

Y'see, I could say "You can go fast, I can go anywhere, Africa Twin" But you buggers have 'em as well so it would sound pretty lame .... oops!

I did my head bearings earlier this year and mine were in the same condition as yours by the sounds of it. Who'd have thought that mud mixed with rust wouldn't work as a lubricant? I wish I'd gone to wemoto for my new bearings. I went for some fancy looking roller bearings I saw on ebay and they were supplied without the top and bottom dust seals. So I had to re-use my old ones. The bottom one wasn't in great condition after I'd beaten the old bearing cone off the bottom yolk. Live and learn eh?

Nothing like a good job done though. Bike feels so much better after.
