Finally, I think I may have it sortedI've tried the AT with the standard screen and with the standard and a Touratech flip on top, but always found it noisy - not so much buffeting as a godawful whooshing wind noise.
Ducking down an inch or two, or even just tipping my head down to look at the fuel cap would make a huge difference, as would standing up. I'm about 6'1 or 2 btw.
Nearer the beginning of the year I was going on a decent trip and heard the MRA was good so bought one of those, only to find that too made no apparent difference, no matter whether it was high, low or anything in between, bah.
I had been thinking of putting the Touratech flip on top of the MRA but never actually got around to it, thinking it would both look stupid and possibly even break the screen too.
But this evening I just stuck it on anyway and went for a test spin.
At low speed I wasn't sure, but as I picked up a bit I ducked the head down to see if the noise decreased as normal, but no.
The noise level seemed quite acceptable, and stayed like that up to 60-70 and beyond. Sticking my head out to the side a little would immediately bring back that familiar whooshing noise, but behind the screen was a relative oasis of calm. Yeehaaa, happy days, etc etc !
I had also changed back to the standard can and am actually very pleased with the sound and quietness of that too. It has a decent thrum after 5k revs whereas I was starting to get paranoid with the GPR, it has a nice sound but once the revs pick up I feel it can be heard from a long way off, especially if I'm thrashing it a bit.
However, a new problem has now become apparent. My front Heidenau knobbly makes a truly astounding racket, probably more than the rest of the bike combined. Time to get out the large file methinks !
