I have the basic Belstaff with mega-magnets and full size map window. It was cheap (on sale at the local m/c showroom) and is expandable and has shoulder straps for using as a backpack when off the bike. Neat and useful piece of kit.
I did modify it with an recessed indent on the underside to accept the raised filler cap on my RD04; but that now acts as a really good locator so the bag is always central and doesn't move a bit even when fully expanded and filled.
No need to go for expensive stuff if you're really going to use it rather than show it off.

Which tank bag do you prefer/use and why?

I want something that easily fits on top of the AT tank, has a map window, easily removable but fastens securely. There's quite a few options and would appreciate input from those who use them. Thanks!
THIS IS MY WEAPON OF CHOICE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's the Oxford expander tankbag had it about 5-6 years it's never let me down, can be separated into separate sections, all of which have a map case on the top. The bag can be attached to the tank by straps or the extremely strong magnets. The only thing i have found is that it comes with an elasticated plastic rain cover to waterproof it which does work. The problem is when you hit speed the cover seems to ballon up. That said it hasnever had any water in it, but the map case on top has leaked through the zip

As you can see it does go very large and tall and with all the sections attached and on the tank i can't see over the Vara's screen or turn the bars from lock to lock. Not a problem though as i said it comes in sections. So it's up to you what combination you use

I usually use the magnetic base and top case for long trips as it can be worn as a rucksack when removed from the bike. You just unzip it and leave the base on the the tank

All the cases have double zips and can be pad locked.

Also comes with plenty of straps for securing and carrying.

It is generally very well put together i got from Infinity for about £45 in the sale all colours available newer version is onsale for around the same price if you shop around.

You can also just use the base if needed as that is a map case aswell.

Forgot to mention on lock to lock it can hit the horn and start button.

I have the Touratech branded Kahedo bag and side pouches. Easily the best for the AT and TA and Vara. It's expensive (you can buy the side pouches seperately). I found magnetic bags not good if you store mobile phones, GPS, memory cards and credit cards in them. They also don't stay on very well in a fall and can be nicked very quickly.

    IMO.

Have a look on the Touratech website.

I picked this one up off fleebay couple of years ago.

Made for the @ it zips to a base unit which is strapped to tank.

Added benefit it also has two side panniers which zip on independently, very useful for weight bias.

I strap bottom of pannier to crash bar.

Ohhhh very nice. What make / model is it? Can you get to the filler cap without a problem?

Well it's marked as a Tuareg, model name i assume, don't know what make but probably no longer listed, as a lot of @ stuff.

Easy to fuel up, just unzip halfway round and lift bag over.

It also has quite stiff sides, which i like, keeps it's shape. Expands to double the size, i can get a helmet in.

The panniers are soft enough to pack inside and then fit on to bring "duty free" back.
