Thanks, I'll take the airbox off this weekend and have a look. Forgot to mention that I have a scot oiler which I leave turned off - could this cause a problem too? Thanks again.

One more thing but may be a red herring - when I was able to get 98 ron unleaded I didn't seem to have this problem but do with 95 ??
Scottoiler could be an issue possibly.
When you say "you leave it off" do you mean you've disconnected it? If so, have you blanked off the vacuum take-off point on the inlet manifold? If not, try blanking it off with a small bolt of the same thread and try the bike again.
Not sure the petrol quality issue would affect it, I always run mine on the cheapest stuff I can get! Could be an issue if you've had a tank of crap fuel though; have you refuelled since problem started??
Bob
On the scotoiler I just have it turned off at the control knob at the top of the resovoir but worth checking where it connects to the inlet manifold. Yeah I have refuelled - this has been happening on and off for over a year!! Cheers
Check the Diaphragms in the carbs make sure one has not split.
I would suspect the carbs moving parts are prone to stick now and again.
Just a thought... Having suspected and replaced the cables already and not likely to be choke (unless the little black plastic screw-in plunger unit has sheared and cable or spring are jammed? but this would just cause a sluggy idle when warmed up, No?)
Would a lack of vacuum through an open choke plunger cause intermittent over-rev? Naah?
Usually a sticking cable / slider.
Poss a broken spring or ****e sticking the throttle cam (where the cables are attached at carb end) but not likely.
Best of luck - Im intreagued
Up... & down. But in the end, its only round & round.
Hi, just noticed that the clips securing the rubber connections between the carbs and cylinders are loose but can't gaet a turn on the screw to tighten them will need some wd40. Also there is a split in the overflow cable from one of the carbs which i have taped up. Would either of these be causing the problem? Thanks
Hi all, took the tank off today and found the following:
Rubber covers at end of choke cables were pulled back over cable and never pushed forward when fitted - also one rubber cover split so put some silicone on gap!!!!
Clips securing airbox rubbers to carb loose
Clips securing rubber mounts to cylinders loose
Where hoses connected to airbox just above someone has repaired a gap with silicone so bunged some more silicone on
2 other hoses not connected properly
Tightened up everything - hopefully this sorts the prob!!!!! probably made it worse!!!
Thanks for all the advice - I will let you know if it is sorted
All these problems would not help the situation.
Vibration would alter the air fuel mix which would cause the engine to race now and again.
