    Unhappy Fuel starvation

Ive just come back from a 125 mile round trip of the lakes. I started with a full tank and everything was fine until id done about 90 miles, then the engine started to cut out, so id freewheel to a halt wait 5 mins and it would start again it must of cut out at least 8 times over 4/5 miles which i then pulled into a petrol station. I got talking to a guy on a Harly and he suggested the fuel filter. I then brimmed the tank and this cured the problem entirely, it ran sweet as a nut for the 30 miles home.Im going to have a look at the fuel filter to see if its blocked in any way. incedently i fitted a Facet fuel pump recently. Any Ideas

Did the tank hiss when you opened it?
Does the pump make a noise?
If it has to wait for five mins then it is gravity feeding so it could be blocked filter or the taps not turned fully on.
YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE

There was no sound from the tank and also no noise from the pump, So it looks like it is now narrowed down to the fuel filter, can this be cleaned out or will i need a new one. Ill also look at the tap while im there. Thanks for that Stumpyfingers.

Me thinks you got the wires switched. If you start with a full tank, it will run fine with the pump not working untill the fuel reaches the carbs level. After that , no fuel gets into the carbs.

Disconnect the output fuel hose from the pump, hit the starter button and see if it pumps...simples.

Just tried that and it looks like it is pumping the right way. Ive also removed the inline filter that is before the pump and this looks ok, is there another filter somewhere or do i need to remove the tank and drain the lot out (3/4 full) to see if there is a blockage and to check the fuel tap ?

    Re: Fuel starvation

when you disconnected the line into the pump did fuel piss out of the pipe from the tank? If yes tank is good, now connect this pipe to the pipe with the factory inline filter and press start , pint says it fires up.There would want to be an ass lod of crud in the tank to block the fuel line its a massive diameter as far as fuel line goes.

Will the bike run O.K. gravity feeding so long as you keep the fuel level in the tank up above the level of the carbs?
