Meant to say as well lads that Halfords "Appliance White " spray is a near perfect match for twin white plus no need to Lacquer after wards. Used it on the frame after the powder coating to get one or two nooks where powder coat was light.

Looking good there Jonny. Makes such a difference to see a clean frame don't it. You begin to see why your going to all the trouble.

Mine's almost there. Put oil and water in tonight to check for leaks. Can't start her because the exhaust is away having the receiver rebuilt. With a bit of luck, the welding will have been finished by Monday sometime and I can perhaps try to fire her up. (provided there are no problems with the fluids I've put in today).

    Cheers M8.

Mike got all the crud out the same location and it was like tar , Saturday last went to the local filling station and asked the guy to hot wash it some difference. Its interesting how after you clean some thing like this you keep telling your self "its a waste of time cos you'll be on the bike five mins on a country road and the whole bike is going to be cow **** " anyway we do love refurbishment?

Nice job mike looking forward to the good news on the start up you'll have to buy a packet of digestives and make a gallon of tea - some achievement fair play mate.

    Well done.

    Lads

Cannot get VHT (Very High Temp) paint here . Got simmonz Silver but nothing like the crank case cover color. I have seen VHT in burnt copper on the web but cannot find a supplier here in IRL.

Question any one used hammerhead smooth finish gold or other car aerosol on the crank cases ?

Also if any ones got a contact or supplier that they could put me in contact with Id be grateful. Crank Case color .

Or if some one has any I will purchase and pay postage and a drink.

Ive been searching in the forum and its a last resort putting up the new thread.

Progress is no where near mike at the moment . Dropped a couple of hundred euro with wemoto for spares the other day so waiting for them to materialize.

Funny you should come up with this today Jonny because I sprayed my crankcase with Hammerite smooth 'gold' yesterday (Thu).

I think it'll be ok, as the crankcase doesn't get anywhere near as hot as the exhaust where you'd normally use VHT paint. If not.. Oh well, just a case of giving the case another rub down and use the paints designed for the job.

I did think about VHT but the colour's available were limited with no gold at all. Also I think I've heard somewhere that you need high temperatures' to cure this paint which I don't think the crankcase would achieve.

Will post some pics of progress over the weekend.

    Have a good one bro.

Thats mad cos I was in the shed about to start spraying last night Thursday and got the hebegebes- I'd be pissed off if it started to come off after all the work Ive put in - so I had a cup of tea and a roll and logged in for some group therapy.

I was thinking along the same line temp wise Mike and what made me even more convinced was that theres some rubber in contact with the crank case (genarator etc ) if its cool enough for rubber its cool enough for paint by my reckoning.

It makes me laugh that on any given evening theres a population of men and women in their sheds in the cold turning old bikes into new bikes, thinking the same things and sharing freely advice and tips -man it s good to be alive and interested in mechanics.

Thanks for getting back to me mike Hammerite it is .....

    Forgot to mention Jonny.
I'm also going to cover the gold with a couple of coats of clear lacquer spray. Was recommended to me by the guy who built the engine. As the paint is like a 'metalic' it enhances the gloss effect.

    Urgent Jonny..

Do not, I repeat DO NOT put clear lacquer on to the hammerite paintwork, it destroys the paint surface. Just started to do mine and the paint began to 'crinkle' within seconds.

    "Bugger"

    Never mind, lesson learned..

OK got that . bi lox anyway. Are you sure hammerite had cured/dried?

I found that on some second coats the same thing would happen maybe it's drying time.
