Re: Stripping and Rebuilding Do & Do not

OK this is how it used to look

This is the first strip session.

Having a cup pa and a fag, started at 8 this evening finished at 11.
  1. pillion passenger peg frames off both sides
  2. tank fairings off both sides
  3. Horn off plastic mesh hanging on choke cable
  4. side fairings rear both off
  5. Saddle off
  6. fairing at nose of bike off- brass collets came out of plastic molding.
  7. Exhaust off
  8. Bash plate off-rubber that allows bash plate to vibrate rotten- all allen bolts tight as hell , used power steering oil on front of bolt before twisting.
  9. chain guard off
  10. rear wheel off- being held together with hope ,its way worse than I thought.
  11. rear wheel sprocket off
  12. rear wheel break disk off
  13. rear travel box base off
  14. rear subframe off which travel box is bolted down onto
  15. break light fairing removed
  16. removing tube tyre tomorrow and removing spokes- spokes shot to **** -hope hub is clean don't think I need to get it powder coated will clean and post to CWC for rebuild .

Now you can start putting bets as to weather I finish this or not but I'm aiming for March 2010

Jonny

Lightbulb Re: Stripping and Rebuilding Do & Do not

Ok

Sunday morning today the 4/10/09

Said Id like it to give it one last turn before I started dropping out the air filter . Gave the key fob a press and nothing , no beep , no lights blinking . Thought it could be the key fob. Darted into halford's , changed batteries and nothing (had reckoned on batteries cos it came with bike and from time to time gave trouble.

So Ive decided to remove the immobilizer altogether get back to factory wiring setup .

This is the mess Ive got to sort out

So any advice ? Wire back to basics or try and fault find on the immobilizer.

This is the part I was dreading and I'm getting a good dose of it with this
immobilizer.

This is where I'm at right now .

Back to basics if it was me!

Carefully remove the alarm/immobiliser and rejoin (carefully sleeve then solder) any wires that have been broken into or spliced.

You can always re-install it later, but at this stage of stripping, it could just add hours of pointless searching to getting the bike running. If it's like it now, it'll be ten times harder once you've put the bike back together and can't figure out why it's dead or won't start.

Re: Stripping and Rebuilding Do & Do not

Your spot on with the alarm removal, the last thing you want is that thing giving up when your miles from anywhere.
I managed to de alarm my last bike,I found that the wires had been cut and the unit just soldered in,wasn't too hard to re solder the wires back together, and chuck the alarm in the bin.
I had to do the same to my old Disco ,bloody immobiliser ,grrrr.
My old landrover and the AT have a lot in common, both weigh a ton.
Cheers
Lee
PS Just had a thought, the alarm I took off had a microswitch under the seat, immobilised if the seat was lifted.

Re: Stripping and Rebuilding Do & Do not

Fork me if I wasn't pissed off this morning . Any way got on the Internet in the after noon and found a nugget of information "hit the alarm unit a slap" . Well went down to the shed with all the technology info and spent the afternoon trying this and trying that and at 8 this evening drinking a cup of tea and feeling a good bit forked off , I remembered the slap it suggestion . With nothing to lose I hit the forking thing a decent smack with a ring spanner and guess forking what the piece of shazit beeped and flashed and beeped and flashed to every push of the key fob. I kid you not . The chicken of happyness has returned to the shed

And yes it coming out over the next couple of evenings and Im going to do some thing special with the piece of ****z.

Oh happy days
