Re: Stripping and Rebuilding Do & Do not

Ok this is where Im at right now.

Sending hub over to CWC and going to get wheel rebuild on a Alloy rim . Decided Id clean up the hub . Got the hub back to factory finish but it had a few nicks here and there so decided Id get it sand blasted .
So started to talk with Paul Mitchel who owns the powder coating company I'm going to go with and asked him if there was something less aggressive than sand blasting and he said he could dip it . I'm not to worried about other components but the hub , with its precision bearing races etc , doesn't need sand taking off too much metal. So within ten minutes
Chemical process is very aggressive but no impact on the metal. So its getting powder coated by Paul during the week when he has a big bake on.

Going with black and getting the DID color on the rim , its going to look odd if i go with black at the rear and leave the front gold and just cannot afford to send of the front to get it blacked as well.

So I think its worth the effort to try and get these items dipped rather than blasted given how tight the specs are for bearings.

    Jonny

Id like to give the Irish guys this guys contact details cos so far hes been right down the line , his name is Paul Mitchell , hes a tool maker by profession and has been very straight with me his number is 0876794274 http://www.powder-coating.ie/

I used to work somewhere with one of the dipping machines. At some point someone had got a permanent marker and written "chippy" on the side of it with a picture of a dead fish

    Nice going

Well hope your all having a good week end1 Its late and Im finishing up.
First things first WEMOTO how can you give out about them , second time dealing with them and faultless as ever , bearing kit arrived . As ordered and all for great value. Very happy.
First thing I did was open up the bearings and pack them up with more grease.

Got my as new hub back on Friday evening .

So put it all together ready for Mondays post.

Reason I'm in such good form , I just finished taking out the demoralizer. Took my time and soldered all wires back together , insulating each one as I went . Finished up and tested the handy work , bike fired up first flick.
Run and stop button not working correctly , run works , stop still allows starter motor to be started when I press the button.Installer of the demorlizer (imobiliser) did a good job , but some one else wasnt so good at electrics so It looks like Im going to have to untape parts of the loom and repair. Still its worth doing now that Ive fixed the big problem.

Any way lads keep it straight

    VINAS
Going with new stainless steel full set £99 sterling. CWC are going to do the rebuild. The way I see it buying a second hand wheel just didn't add up for me all the advice so far has been get something as important as a rear wheel as close to new as possible. So hence the rebuild. Buy once and buy right.

But while youre on vinas , get this CWC can post the rebuilt rub back to me here in Ireland for £15 and if I want I can have a tyre fitted (pay extra) but I t will still be posted for £15 ok. To post the hub from Ireland costs €36 , where the fork are we going with that kind a ****z .

    Any way keep it straight.

Re: Stripping and Rebuilding Do & Do not

    Progress .

    Immobilize remove .
I was a bit worried about ripping this out but now I'm not , in fact I'm glad I did . I discovered a whole load of wiring problems that Ive been able to fix. Last owner was an idiot. Some of the loom has been opened in the past and I think I'm going to have to open it up again and go through it to be sure. Sounds daft but based on what Ive found so far it may be time well spent.

Air Box a puzzle which should be turned into a board game . Any way moving along , has any one got a fix for these .....

How will i stick these in the hole and not mess up the threads. Bolts had rusted and jammed the threads when I was removing them and the ended up turning inside the plastic.

need to know a fix that wont mess up the threads. any one.....

What connector is held in the pic above last plank had it bent over on its self , suspect its the rectifier?

Frame is bad but not as bad as I first thought rust wise

So I'm tipping along very slowly , marking every thing up and taking pic's .

    Later

Re: Stripping and Rebuilding Do & Do not

    Wheel back together very happy

Had decided not to take out engine but to sand down frame in situ . All was going well until I took off the swing arm and shock. Just kept noticing where the last owner had done some sanding here and there and didnt do a good job so I decided to go the distance fork it .

Question for you all how do I clean up this spring
And can you buy brazing rods that can be melted with a paint striping gas torch I want to mend these

    Later Jonny
