    Re: KTM WP shock in RD07

    I am following this thread with interest, If a straight swap was on the cards I'd be in like flynn .I've been bottoming out my RD03 suspension a bit lately and my LC4 400 needs major engine surgery.
    So I look at this WP shock hanging there doing nothing (and those nice usd forks) and think mmm .
    Just thinking , with the WP being a more complient spring the extra weight of the @ would make it settle further giving the same ride height mabe,
    And the extra length of action would only come into play as the bike leaves the ground ??

    It all depends. Does your KTM have the same rear linkage as the AT? Some KTMs use shorter shocks bolted directly on the top of the swingarm. Its not just the linkage, for each type of linkage the internal damper and spring are different.

    The linkage arangement looks very similar with the two little arms being slightly longer on the KTM is the only difference visually

    Would you like to say why?ATs are getting older,not everyone wants to pay out for a brand new shock and there are a few LC4 ones on ebay.If the conversion could be done properly I don't see why not.

    The "Not Good" refered to this;

    Can you read in there ?!?: "Go bother someone else!"
    I think its too obvious.

    I didn't see that there were 2 other posts after it.

    Can I suggest you read the whole post as well, you will find I was advising againest buy a new or second hand damper, but having the stock one rebuilt.

    Ok, if you have the links, you're good to go. Just take it out, measure it and figure out how much you need to shorten it. The stock one is 380mm.

    Good luck and keep following this thread for more info.

    I am interested in the KTM conversion,if it is possible but I would agree with getting the stock one rebuilt.I had the Showa shock off my VFR rebuilt by Revs Racing,the cost was about £100 a couple of years ago.Even the cheapest aftermarket shock will be about three times that.

    I have to agree with you about not messing around with shocks if you don't know what you are doing.I am a car mechanic,not a technician or engineer.Several years ago one of the lads at work had a spring compresser let go whilst he was changing a spring.He was lucky to get away with a broken jaw and loosing a load of teeth.
