    Engine protection bars RD07

I have just bought myself an -98 @.

It would be much appreciated if you guys could give me some info on crash bars.

Which bars are the best? Strongest? Easy to install?

I know the Touratech and the SW Motech were usually considered to be the best around, but are there any other good ones?

I had Riky Cross bars on my old RD03, but I do not whant to go that way again.

    Hi Kjell,

I've got SW Motech ones on my RD07a and they fit to the frame rather than some that fit to the bash plate lugs. They seem very well made and a cheaper than some other not so well made ones. Whre the pictures of your new ride???

Hi Kjell, I have SW Motech bars on my '02 @. They look good and both fixing brackets fit directly to the frame downtube rather than the bashplate bolts (which I think is an inferior way of fixing).

A couple of minor problems were (i) the plastic radiator guard needed trimming to stop it snagging on the fixing brackets and (ii) the brake hoses snagged on the upper fixing bracket at full lock - I have glued a small piece of 2mm steel bar onto each side of the headstock which slightly lessens the steering lock and hence solves the problem.

As for effectiveness, I have yet to find out since the bike's not yet been dropped

Also, after a year or so the black paint finish started to flake in one location.

    Pictures are comming ASAP.

Just need my camera back from the repair shop.

It's a very well kept bike, but I must admit to that it can't be compared
with an RD03, or an RD04 when it comes to looks and pedigree.

Oh well, at least it's R/W/B.

Hello Kejell..the following before and after pics are of the earlier model Touratech crash bars. Apparantly they have since re-designed them. I have seen the later design...and they are different.

Definately a testimonial to the earlier model...And I did manage to straighten these bars and paint them up. A bead of weld on the scrape and some grinding did the trick. Had a heavy duty vice at work to secure them.

Never throw out those old damaged bent bars.

Cheap and cheerful - I have Givi Bars - they seem OK - never going to bend the frame that's for sure.

For my information - why do you not want Ricky Cross bars again? Was there something wrong with them - I'm thinking of buying a set and I would appreciate your opinion

Thumbs up SW Motech bars for me

SW Motechs for me. As said above, they're mounted onto the frame at the front unlike the Givi ones that mount to the front sump guard mounting bolts.

Mine survived several low speed / stationry "lay-downs" (dont like to call them drops ), with only scuff marks on the crash bars.

Excellent bit of kit that does exactly what it say's on the can, so to speak

Givi bars are good, they fix directly to the frame and are nice and strong, look good too!

If you find somewhere that has got them discounted you can get them for a steel, mine cost me £65!!
