    starting up my @

    Hi folks, newbie here.

would like some advise from u guys.

1st wen i bought my bike, i can always cold start it with one press of the ignition & rev will maintain till warm.
Now, it keeps on dying and i need to maintain throttle for few secs to maintain the rev.
    Subsequent start is fine tho.
Is it normal for old bikes?
    Should i worry? hehe.

    hi,
simple question are you using the choke to start? if not do so.
Choke plungers probably jammed [usual thing]
    check for clean airfilter?
    what colour are plugs?

if above all okay then you have a air leak on induction side somewhere but that should make bike run lean all time not just at start up!

Ask your fellas when would you use the choke- I would use it when cold or hard to start, assuming all other parts of bike are fine(as you have indicated). Just don't leave it on too long

    hi dakaolin,
sounds like you engine needs a bit of choke to start as already suggested, try it and if it starts okay [problem solved] but use only a bit of choke not full amount then push in before leaving.

As we all say "honda wouldn`t have fitted it if it were`nt needed"

I now it aint that cold in singapore but it is in the hill stations of Malaysia

    Hi there,
I always start with choke and let it run for minute. Is there a reason why this could be bad for the engine???

    Huib

There's nothing wrong with using the choke to get you started, as Tramp said - it's normal, that's what it's for.

I always have to use choke, that way it starts first time. Then when it's warming the choke goes in and off we go.

Could be fuel evaporating in the carbs making it slightly harder to start if bikes been sitting for a while.

If I lived on the equator I'd go the choke cable removal and blanking off route that many others have done, you may even get better fuel economy.

In Cameron Highlands you could always bump start it down a hill.
