KTM WP shock in RD07 (How to...)

    Hi!

Recently I bought a KTM 620 LC4 rear shock for £50 (egay) to fit My RD07.

It had to be a shock from a bike who uses the same linkage system has the AT. Some KTMs use PDS system (shock bolted directly into the swingarm) and those wont fit or work properly.

It came 3 cms longer than the Showa so I send it to the guys over at ABEngineering for a shortening and service. They charged me £60 for this and took 1 week to get it done.

When it came back I had to fabricate some shims to replace the ones on the top eye of the shock. They needed to be 6mm wider in total to fit the frame mount.
I got a heavier spring in it and basically just threw it in the bike. I still dont have the pics that show it, but the shock is now in the bike. I still have to sort the rear brake master cylinder wich has to be moved 1" back to clear some space for the shock reservoir. Just a small plate will do the job.
    More pics to come soon

A bit more work done today. Managed to get the master cylinder plate done.

I think I'll need to shorten and re-route the rear brake line.

This may be a personal Preferance. But WP would be the last brand of Shock that I would put in my AT.

Over hear in Aust they are failing at a great rate on the Orange Beasts.

Guess all the roads are smoother over there where you guys are ?

Not yet, I havent tried it yet, too many loose things on the bike, but its a lot stiffer now and with compression and rebound adjustment too. It's got to make a difference...

This is off a 96 620 LC4. Not a recent model shock, anyway, I've spent so far £120, so its ok if it fails. A big difference between the £700 they ask for new WP shocks to fit the AT. Hey, if I had the money, I might even be stupid enough to buy a better bike...

    Not possible.

    3 TLD's done, (2009 + 2010 + 2011) - bring on 2012

When they kick at your front door How you gonna come?
With your hands on your head Or on the trigger of your gun
When the law break in How you gonna go?
Shot down on the pavement Or waiting on death row?.............
