Thanks for keeping us updated on the progress of this unique bike, and I hope you will be able to source some genuine Marathon auxiliary tanks in the future.![]()
I have a question
Is the main fuel tank for the Marathon made of alloy, as opposed to steel of the standard RD03??
Obviously it has a different filler neck, and has the four lugs just behind, and I also think it looks a slightly different shape, even without the protectors.
I notice your tank has damage but NO corrosion, which is why I think it is alloy????
I would guess that if it is indeed alloy, it would be easier to damage than steel, and this is why the outer protection panels are fitted.

Hi Bob,
The front tank is in steel... It will be very hard to rebuilt it but we will find a solution. I have someone who is working on it.
The shape of the tank is totally different but you can really see the difference when you have the 24L at side of the 40L. The 40L is more massiv & imposing especially between the 2 legs.
When I will receive the 40L bag, I will make some pictures at side of the original one.
Thks Kjell for your message
Here some more pictures of the differences with the standard bike

I think there should be a small pod (box) with additionel tripmeter located in the area were the idiotlights are, do you still have it?
It's amazing that you still have the fuel tank pocket!!!
I can understand that owning a bike like this, you would like to renovate it back to "as new", but I personally think that a genuine works bike with "battle scars" is also wery desirable.
Anyhow, I will follow your thread, and the progress with the bike

The rear wheel spindle also appears to be a standard item rather than a 'Marathon' item. It should have the bar protruding from the nut over the top of the swing arm to allow rear wheel removal using only a socket on the loose nut side.
