    Centre Stand on a RD04

    Hi Guys,
Just bought a centre stand for my RD04 and after fitting, the bike will not retract back further than vertical on the stand! I pull the bike only to find the centre of balance in exactly vertical to the bike. In other words it keeps falling forward off the centre stand. I've looked underneath and the flat impact area's of the stand seem to be resting on the alloy mounting for the centre stand itself.
    Any idea's?
    Cheers
    Mike

The Honda item hasn't got any alloy mountings that I remember. Is this an aftermarket stand?

    Hi There.

I bought it from David Silver and I think was advertised as an original Honda part.
Where the front of the stand rests with the bike upright, the centre stand usually has a very slight angle backward to enable stability. This stand however is absolutely vertical and you only need to touch the bike for it to fall forward off the stand.
I've had a look, and there is no adjustments possible as the mating surfaces are just that, plain flat surfaces.

The Honda Genuine RD04 stand one doesn't have an alloy mounting. It attaches using a pivot through the lugs already on the frame. I'll see if i can find a photo.

What was the part number of yours? Any chance of a photo?

It is ridiculous but the same thing happened to me when I fitted it tot he zebra and I have seen at least one other RD04 owner with the same problem. It actually makes the bike unstable unless on a slope.

I can only assume the stand on my other RD04 was either an older version or not the Honda model.

Both my 04 and my first 07 were just a tiny push away from dropping off the centre stand forwards. That's one of the reasons why they can be troublesome to get on the stands in the first place. If I parked my bike outside the garage and there were kids running about I used to plump for the sidestand instead.

That's the unit Alan. The part that rests on the frame in my opinion, is not angled enough to allow the bike to go beyond vertical and is dangerous (not fit for purpose). I'm assuming as yours was fine, that perhaps there was a batch defect maybe?

The only time I had problems with the stand it was due to a wad of grass reinforced dried mud stuck to the frame where the stand makes contact. The stand never went far past vertical and, although it felt pretty stable, I certainly wouldn't park the bike nose downhill on the centre stand. Just about the only time I used the stand was for maintenance.
