New Ricor shock for the AT

I appears that Ricor is getting close to building a rear shock for the ATs and Transalps.

To complete the job I have to provide specifications for eye-to-eye length for the RD 03, 04 and 07 shock.

I need the measurement for fully extended and also fully compressed.

Compressed length can be taken up to the contact point with the bumper and then just provide the thickness of the bumper.

I have a RD03 shock so I can provide measurements for those and, I assume, the RD04 shock is the same. It's the 07 shock I'm not sure about.

I've also posted this on advrider but I want to be certain about any differences between the models. I know the frame changed with the RD07 models but I don't think the suspension linkage changed. If it has, please advise. If any of the shock dimensions (mounting bolt diameter, width of the "U" shaped bottom mount etc) are different for the RD07, please let me know as soon as possible.

A few months ago, I said I'd let you all know about rear shock development. It now appears to be very close.

Thanks in advance for any assistance you can provide. I'll make all information concerning availability and pricing known as soon as possible. The new IAS shocks have gotten great review with the KLR650 crowd here in the States.

Here are the measurements I got from my RD03 shock

Extended eye-to-eye: 375 mm. My records show this is the same as the PD06 Transalp shock.

Compressed eye-to-eye: 315mm. Until "U" shaped bottom mount contacts rubber bumper

    Rubber bumper: 30mm.

So....total compressed length: 285 mm. Probably 290 since the bumper has to occupy some space.

Just when I've gone and bought a new Hagon shock... But, judging by the price for the KLR shock ($839), this would've been out of my budget range anyway.

The RD04 shock is different from the RD03. I can't take measurements 'cos I haven't got one any more but hopefully someone will be able to measure one for you. I'm sure the RD03, RD04 and RD07 all use different linkages and may therefore all have different spring rates and damping too.

Nope , but I've got a set on order for my RD03.
I'm just going on what people I know who have put them on DR's and KLR's say about them , huge improvement apparently.

    I have on my RD07.

    Ricor INTIMINATOR front fork inserts
3 Africa Twins/280,000 miles. If it's happened to one of mine, it's gonna happen to one of yours.....eventually.

1 Varadero/17,000 miles ridden (of 40,000 miles on the bike), it's all still new to me!

    Hello Underground,

I just re-read YPs post and you asked about springs and air pressure for the RD03.

If it were me, I'd start as easy as possible. Keep the springs standard and do not add any air pressure.

If you're normally running air inside the forks to give you the correct ride height, the added preload from the Intiminators may compensate for this.

If after adding the Intiminators you feel the ride height or sag is incorrect, you can add spacers or cut a spacer in the appropriate manner. Remember that spacers affect ride height/sag only and not spring rate.

I'd be careful cutting the springs themselves as removing coils will give you a stiffer spring (counterintuitive but true)

I've found that (all things being equal) the Intiminators work best with standard or softer springs.

Thanks for that ladder106 , thats what I was thinking of doing , 5w oil standard springs and zero air pressure and I'll see how she feels.
By the way I didnt order the Ricor oil because of freight issues but I'm, guessing that any good quality 5w fork oil will do the trick.
And if the intiminators live up to their rep I guess I'll just have to have one of them shocks when they eventuate .
