    RD03 Total Engine Rebuild

    Hi There,

Im from the UK although I currently live in Thailand and am a fully trained mechanic. A friend here owns a 647cc rd03 that after the attempted 'rebuild' by several thai mechanics is very noisy.

I now have the engine out and have started stripping it for him. Things noticed so far are that both timing chains are very stretched (the tensioners are at full stop and the chains still arent tight) also the oil chain is very loose indeed.

My question to start is simply are these parts available and if so where from.

    Many thanks in advance

    Gareth

    Hi Gareth

One place to get genuine Honda parts over here is David Silver Spares -

    David Silver Spares - HOME

Very good service from these folks.

If you want to check any fiches for part numbers, then try these guys -

    Honda Motorbike Parts

Stick the VIN number into their web page and away you go.

    Hope that helps.

It's not a case of whether we can fix it or not - it's more a case of how fixed would you like it?

Not sure about Thai sources, but there are fiches on this site (see the top under Tech Data) and you can order parts from davidsilverspares.co.uk although you may need to discuss the shipping with them first.

The oil chain is normally pretty loose on these motors but if the camchains are stretched that much, they'll make a right old noise.

    Ok, thanks guys.

Its all stripped now. The problems arent as major as fiest expected.

The oil pump drive pulley was on the wrong way around and the chain had been rubbing on the r/h crankcase. The oil pump chain is very stretched too.

Big ends are very lightly scored. Timing chains very stretched. No exhaust to cylinder head gasket rings were fitted?! Thats about it really. Ill start looking into parts I guess.

Can i get big ends from the above too? I cant see them on either site? Engine code is RC31
