The brakes on the AT are perfectly good for the type of bike that it is - if you want to ensure you are getting the maximum performance out of them, then make sure you have good pads, and yes you could upgrade the brake hoses to braided ones as the originals even on the latest models could do with renewing.

As for suspension - where to start.............

There's lot's of different ways of upgrading - Ohlins, WP, Hagon, Intimators, etc......just do a search and you'll get loads of info about the various upgrades that members have done.

On my @ 650 mine had a front floating disc which is said to be better but I never noticed any difference, I fitted progressive front springs which made a small improvement to the bikes handling, but the biggest noticeable change was when I got
www.allbikeengineering.co.uk/ to rebuildmy rear shock the bike sat a good
inch higher and was much better under braking and off road I also got a new rear disc off them

I also noticed the lack of stopping power when I first bought my AT. First of all I changed the brake lines to braideds, and that improved a bit the braking but not much. After that I decided to go for a bigger piston master cylinder.
I got a DL1000 Vstrom master cylinder and that made a big difference. Not so progressive for off road, but a lot more powerfull when the bike is fully loaded.

Suspension wise, I got a DRZ400 front end , managed to weld 2 caliper mounts and using the AT wheel, I still keep both discs in the front. Of course I had to change the springs and the oil viscosity, but after some tests, it's working fine now.

I always go for the cheap mods...
