    New chain and Sprocket

    Hi,
Do you folks have any thoughts on a new chain and sprocket set (sprockets for both front and rear) for a 2000 Africa Twin.

I currently have and AFAM set and this has lasted fairly well - ish.

I ask as after getting some new tyres i noted that my chain adjuster is on it's last notch i ride all year round..... geesh it's fun riding in the snow in Kent to client meetings,...makes for some interesting faces and conversations when i walk in though

PS ACF 50 rocks! I got some after reading about it on this forum, makes the bike look super filthy after a month or so of winter riding, but gleams in spring when it's finally washed.

    Hope you guys can help.

    Cheers

CAn't imagine it's much different from my Varadero C & S. I was looking for the same thing and was getting some silly prices in the end i ordered a genuine Honda kit from David Silver £95 + vat and it arrived the following day. The chain is a D I D o ring, i ordered 2weeks ago so you would have to add another 2.5% vat to allow for the increase. Just got to fit them now

Try 'B&C Sprockets', they are excellent, their prices are competitive and they only use top quality components like Renthal, DID etc. Also you can have however many teeth you require for changes of gearing etc.

    Re: New chain and Sprocket

My 2 cents on sprockets. I recently purchased a JT rear sprocket for my rdo7a in the USA only because they are hard to source in Canada and shipping from Europe can get pricey.

Needless to say i'm not really impressed with it. It's seems really beefy and chunky as you can see in the pic. The chain is an RK xso gold...top-o-the-line chain.
Front sprocket is OEM so all three were replaced together. I'll have to go with JT for now. We'll see how it holds up.

Where does everyones chain wear indicator end up after replacement of all 3? As you can see mines in right at the top of the green.
I don't ever recall it being that high during my last replacement.

What I removed was a France Equipment rear sprocket that I purchased from African Queens. They only sold the best.
It is also considerably lighter than the JT...considerably. I believe the FE is the best sprocket money can buy.
That's some kinda hard steel...It wore out 2 chains before I replaced it and still looks not too bad.

    Re: New chain and Sprocket

cheers for that, i will look into the fe sprockets and see what happens, although at the moment i am still favouring the David Silvers option mainly to do with cost, but we will see...... depends on how lovely the alternatives look.

I would like a top of the line chain though........ next purchase after this has gotta be a scotoiler.

Scotoiler is an absolute must IMO. Reckon your chains and sprockets would have lasted even longer with one fitted.

    Re: New chain and Sprocket

Hi All. I was thinking of changing the chain and spockets too. The France Equipment stuff form AQ is 180 euros, but is sounds like solid stuff.
I was wondering about dropping to 40 teeth on the rear sprocket. (from 45). Has anyone done this, and is now running 40 teeth at the moment? How much difference in rev's are there, say top gear at 70mph?
