For starters you will need to remove the air filter housing. Once off, follow the wires from the ignition switch and disconnect at the connector. Remove the two bolts that secure the switch from below at the yoke...and voila!

Re: fitting new ignition? xrv 750

You never mentioned the year of your AT as their are some differences such as fuel level sensor wiring to disconnect on the L and N models.

Yes, remove the 4 screws on the plastic cover over the air filter and seat and side panels as required. Remove the overflow/vent hoses at the rear and left of the tank. Turn the fuel cock off and insert a Phillips screwdriver down the tube of the fuel tap knob and remove the tap knob.
With looooong pointy pliers release the fuel hose clamp. Remove mounting bolts and lift. It's fiddly trying to clear the frame with the fuel cock as it's a tight fit. No one is going to see the scratched paint there anyhow.

With the tank off I would follow the wires back from the ignition and try to see for yourself where they connect...just in case you don't have to take the airbox off..like Haynes sez.

The airbox removel is just bolts and tubes. Straight forward, however their are 2 clamps securing the intake tubes to the carbs. A long thin screwdriver and flashlight will locate them. When installing those clamps don't over tighten them as they will only pop off and leak. It's tricky.

Ya know doddy1...you really need a manual such as the haynes. It's no different than your cook books.
cheers.
