    Worn out engine oil Bolt..help..

    Hello guys,

Changed my engine oil yesterday and I worn out my bolt cos my
tool kept slipping off(poor mechanical skills I have). The bolt looks pretty much like a rivet now..still i managed to open it after so many tries.
I'm afraid I'll have problem with my next oil change unless I get it replaced.

Anyone here have spare to sell or any ideas where i could purchase it?

priority i think is get the correct spanner / socket first , then a sump bolt and new washer. david silvers or wemoto should have them.a lesson for all i think !!
just noticed where you are..........don`t know if they ship goods out to there. send them an e-mail.

You can get them from David Silver Spares - HOME for £1.55 plus postage.
YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE

They'll be a standard bolt fitted to most Honda bikes, I think it's an M14 thread off the top of my head, just get one locally.

Not sure what condition the bolt is in currently, but if the bike has no oil in it then seal off the hole with some tape and screw in the dipstick to avoid condensation forming.

This is a good case for hexagon sockets as opposed to bihex. They don't round off bolt heads and don't normally slip. They will usually work once a bihex has failed! Having said that oil filter and sump bolts can be pigs.

Re: Worn out engine oil Bolt..help..

    And when you refit...

    ...don't overtighten the sump plug!!

I have seen so many people overdo it. I think they are worried it is going to undo when they are riding and all their oil is going to come out!
This will only happen if you do not tighten it correctly or forget to check it... These can also be a b*tch to undo!

Remember; it is only there to keep itself and the oil in - it is not under anything like great pressure.

Remember; it is only threaded into soft metal (easy to overtighten and mess the original threads up in the sump)

    Remember; double check.
    Nearly too many bikes...
