Re: Engine mount.
The person who'd owned the bike beforehand, had used 'Araldite' to stick the pieces back on and they seemed to have held ok. What I'm going to do is use 'liquid metal weld'. Gotta be better than Araldite anyway.
Its not as bad as it sounds really, as only half of the mount has broken. So, there's still plenty of meat left there before I add the liquid metal stuff.
Cheers
Mike

Cool
What brand of liquid metal are you thinking of using?
I only ask as i haven't had any luck with it before in the past... probably me doing it wrong.
If i can get it to work it may be really handy stuff to have, I have heard reports of people using it on the output shaft..... surely it would not hold up to the torsional forces??

[QUOTE=R0vers;438869]dont try this... its the wrong use for this product - it could be dangerous even thinking if using this for the output shaft...
hi chaps, I need to know, why is this dangerous?
If you're after a quick cheap fix and the rest of the engine is fine, just fix on a new sprocket by welding a few tacks on the outside. A good welder should be able to mig weld quickly with out too much heat going down onto the drive shaft seal. Then in the future if you want to replace it just grind off the welds and repeat.
I know it sounds a bit crude, I am an aircraft technician by trade and I hate to bodge things, but it doesn't affect anything else, and you can be on your way for a fraction of the price of a gearbox rebuild.
PS...and remember to run your chain tension correctly in the future, as worn drive shaft seals are almost certainly caused by a too tight chain or old Oring chain with tight spots.

[quote=GSPD750;442587] Oh. Guess what I did last summer...? And its still there. I used a product called Quicksteel. I roughly made up new splines, and before it set as hard as steel, like the packet says it should, I filed it down to the correct size and shape. Robert is now your fathers brother, new splines. No rebuild, not much fuss, a steady hand and most of an afternoon. Just fitted new chain and sprockets today, same shaped splines, unbroken and in place. Output shaft. Done.
