    At rear rack extension.

    Hi all,

Has anyone heard of an extension you can get for the rear rack on a At to make it wider?

If touring with an Ortleib type bag is this something that you would suggest to use so that the base for the bag remains rigid??

I know what i am looking for but can't find it anywhere!!

    Perhaps i am dreaming .................................................. ..... again!

    I appreciate any suggestions.

I haven´t seen one, but I´m planning to make one to extend mine both in length and width.
I have a (cunning) plan to use rectangular section aluminium joined together using rivnuts, so no welding involved.
I should have the materials next week so will make a start then - I´ll take a few photos along the way

    Hi,

I have something similar on my @.....I replaced the origional black u-lock holder with two square section aluminium bars 25mm wide 17mm high that are bolted to the origional mounting points. On top of those I put 4mm thick sheet aluminium extending rearwards 125mm beyond the silver @ rack and secured it to the two aly bars with countersunk allen screws...you could make this whatever shape or size you like.
I did it to move my topbox back for extra pillion room....I would post some pics but i'm....uuum.....not subscribed......

That's what I'm planning and for the same reason, except I'm going to use the box section tube like slats instead of a solid plate.

    Thanks for the replys everyone.

Lokks like i'm going to have to make one, not a bad thing, i do like projects and challenges like this!!

I have an old Givi mount for a top box that i will experiment with. I thought of 30mm ali angle, 2mm thick fixed to the rack.......... mmmmmm

I will get the rack and take to the 'Metal Supermarket' which is by me and see what the lads there can do for me.

I will keep you informed of progress........................... now where did i put the duct tape and zip ties..............

    Re: At rear rack extension.

I have these types of bags and also a couple of big Gelert expedition bags

When I am im putting them on the rack I put a piece of laminate flooring inside the bags to act as a hard structured base. Makes it more secure and can be strapped down well and does not take up any real bag space

I still have the Honda base plate with my U-lock in and I have a Hepco & Becker top box plate mounted on top of that but still within the same dimensions as the Honda base plate

    Works fine for me

    Cost £0

    Great tip Paul thank you!

I love the cost implications too!

Now where to take up a bit of laminate flooring where she wont notice!!
