    750cc Upgrade info required.

Hi. Just joined the site tonight. I have a 96' AT and would like to know if anyone has fitted a larger engine to one of these bikes, ie vtr1000!! I really like the bike but find that after a BMW R1100 it feels a bit underpowered. I would be greatful for any help.

The VTR engine will not fit without extensive modifications.

There are no easy or cheap engine modifications available for the AT engine to gain any substantional extra power.

Some owners install KN-filters, Dynojet kits, and exchanges the end can for something louder/lighter, but do not expect any major HP gains.

The AT is perhaps by todays standards slightly low on power, on the other hand the engine will just keep on running, and running, and running...

He's totally right ! .............(there is a big bore kit for the AT but barely worth the investment, unless your REALLY desperate for a little more power) A filter and pipe will give 3/5 extra and that's about it.Settle for that and your bike will run for years and years and yea....

You could just buy a Varadero or V-Strom...

As above but the other mod would be to change the gearing via sprockets

There are varying combinations to get you faster acceleration on better touring top end but don't muck about too much or you'll lose some of its range of being able to cope off road and on road with the standard gearing

With the way the UK roads are you'd be better dropping the gearing a bit to get you more oomph ! at the expense of losing 5 mph at the top - and keep your licence

One tooth on or off the front is a massive difference in acceleration and if you keep the revs in the range 5 - 8k rpm you'll not be disappointed

02 RD07a RWB, Powerbronze tall screen, Remus Grand Prix, TT crash bars, TT pannier frame, Zega style panniers, Alpos top box,TT bar risers, TT headlamp guard, Heated grips, mainstand, Heidenau K60s for road and light offroad, TKC80s for the dirty stuff, Scottoiler, Autocomm, TT Zumo mount, Zumo 550 and most of all A BIG GRIN !!! Oh, and a very nice RD04 HRC coloured Marathon Replica

OK guys, many thanks. You have saved me many hours of research and work. I have already fitted a 2 tooth smaller rear sprocket for more relaxed top speed and a carbon can to save a few pounds. Will have to live with that as it is a great bike.
AGAIN, MANY THANKS TO YOU ALL.

One other thought would be the fuel pump. I had to change mine recently because the contacts had fused and it finally stopped after 46k miles. It must have been going for a while as I noticed a massive difference in delivery once I had the Facet pump fitted

It's now like a new bike with very consistent delivery and no hesitation
