It's one of those things that I've always wanted to try but never got around to. It would be useful to have a kph readout for those euro trips.
My first @ was an import, with kph clocks. I did the resister mod to get mph up on the tripmaster, but just on the trips. Getting a physically small enough resister to go onto the board an not interfere with anything else was a real pain, but I managed. Couldn't find those surface mounted resisters anywhere, so i used a normal, but physically small, tubular type.
I didn't bother with the speed readout mod because I didn't need it. Plus with both mods incorporated, the tripmaster could, allegedly, freeze up.
There is / was someone on this forum that has done both mods though.

had the kph speedo conversion done on mine and as 1gear said it was handy to have when riding in france
mine never froze on me but i believe if you press the trip reset while in speed mode it will
my mates wife did the conversion for me as she worked in an electronics company assembling circuit boards but any radio shack/electronics shop should be able to do it for you

I did mine three years ago, works great,I use it quite a lot up and down to the UK.
I did the KPH to MPH mod a few yrs back on a black 99 @T, due to my lack of resistors I simply joined the two points on the board, worked fine! Not recommended as a surge could in theory take out the board but as wanted rid of the kph clock any how, it was worth the gamble!
I had no idea this was possible, very cool tip!!
I think I'll give it a go..
While replacing the speedo bulbs i thought i'd have a go at doing the tripmaster modification, went to maplins to buy 10k ohm resistor (17p) cut the ends down to 7/8mm, bent them at 90deg. soldered and left it slightly proud(enough space when reassembled). Turned the ignition on... BINGO!
Trouble is it's in kmh, it says to put/remove resistor in order to have mph/kmh. Mine is a UK model, with a resistor already in the mph slot, I presume this is the piece you need to remove to enable the speed to be shown in mph. Advice modifiers please.
pressed all the buttons(including re-set, while in speed mode... DOH, easy total reset) STILL IN KMH! Hmmmm?
