    Nice one Kjell

Does not look like there is much clearance where centre of the the tyre is close to the swing arm though and I suspect in any gloopy mud would hamper any progress

I've had this with the front mudguard being too close to the tyre and locking the front wheel

Would open up a whole range of tyre options though

02 RD07a RWB, Powerbronze tall screen, Remus Grand Prix, TT crash bars, TT pannier frame, Zega style panniers, Alpos top box,TT bar risers, TT headlamp guard, Heated grips, mainstand, Heidenau K60s for road and light offroad, TKC80s for the dirty stuff, Scottoiler, Autocomm, TT Zumo mount, Zumo 550 and most of all A BIG GRIN !!! Oh, and a very nice RD04 HRC coloured Marathon Replica

They measured the distances with the new wheel:

    These are the measurements:

Front of tire towards the shock: 7 cm,
    Right side 4 cm,
Left side, a little less since the sving is somewhat angled towards the center, approx 2,5 cm at the tire thread block and, approx 3,5cm from the side of the tyre.

So there is still ample space to run an 18" rear wheel with a knobby tire.

I'm thinking of having a set made up with gold anodized rims, and stainless spokes.

Then I can sell my OEM wheels to pay for the new ones.
(They are flawless since the bike never seen rain so far, due to the fact that the previous owner who never really rode the bike at all.
It has less then 9600 km in total, not bad for a bike that's 12 years old)

So you wait until I have both set of wheels being rebuilt to tell me I could have had one set built with an 18-inch rear.

    Cheers.

See that stable door open over there? Could you close on your way out please? The horse bolted days ago.

I'm sorry Whealie, I had no idea you were building new wheels.

You see I have just found a lot of info on a Swedish website concerning Africa Twins, and that's were I have pinced the pictures and info.

If it's makes you happier, I have just bought my self a new rear tire (17") so that's wasted if I change my rim.

I dreaming of getting gold anodized rims, since I feel an XRV should have just that.
I do not fancy the black ones, they are to "modern" for my liking.

This guy used a rear rim with the size 3.50x17 made by the same company.

They are very nice, but gold is for me

Ooohhh, black rims on the AT just looks the dog's proverbials! Almost wishing for my rims to fail so I can upgrade to some black ones.

Am I silly to think an 18 wheel would improve fuel consumption too? More distance for the same number of revolutions?

I would so love to have that conversion.
Probably my next project but I have to spare some bucks first.
Kjell thanks for the link and info!
