When I grow up ..... yeah right!
Y'see, I could say "You can go fast, I can go anywhere, Africa Twin" But you buggers have 'em as well so it would sound pretty lame .... oops!

Thanks, Farmboy, but it's an RD-07. It's not noise that's the problem, but pain resulting from the wind pressing my helmet against my forehead, I think...If you have the RD04 then I have a powerbronze tall screen you can have cheap
After reading numerous threads, including this_classic , I've ordered an MRA Vario. It appears the vario on highest setting should flow the air up & over my heid... TBContinued!

MRA absolute tops - had mine for some months now. You won't have it on the high setting though - even the lowest works - it seems to dissipate the wind and so breaks up the force - you get a pleasant gentle breeze - 70mph + with visor up a real prospect.
Only downside is in the rain - on low position rain doesn't get blown off the visor and in high positions it blows off but downwards - wet crotch!!!
But hey ho small price to pay for the advantages.
It is a bit thinner than standard and sometimes moves about a little more than standard but it's a good bit of kit and well worth the money I think

A mate has the Mra which has an adjustable lip on it, he's about 6 foot and it works for him. I got the Mra Vario which has a top half which can be slid up and down a few inches. I'm about 6'2 and for me at all settings it was the very same as the standard screen.
It wasn't until I added a Touratech lip to the top of that I finally found peace.
It can still be a bit noisy sometimes depending on whether or not my earplugs are in properly and what way the wind is blowing, but I can ride at any speed with my visor up and not have any wind in the face which is great.
Mines the mra with the small lip thing and I am 6ft I think the effect of breaking the wind works well

More from the realm of the sore-headed...
Put an MRA_Vario screen on about 6 weeks ago. Initially seemed great, then took a run to Moffat taking in A/B roads + motorway, & sure enough the pain was back within 30 miles. Surprised as the air flow was now way higher than with the original screen - doing the 'glass-box-mime' movement to discern air direction, it had gone from eye level to well-above.
Somewhat in desperation, I ordered the MRA Vario Touring version, as shown here -
Went for a long ride today to try it out properly - again, air flow is directed well above eye-level, to fairly near the top of my helmet. The effect was, again, disappointing though, the pain was probably delayed, but still bludgeoned it's weary way into my brain until I could feel little else. All it takes is to stop briefly, not removing my helmet, and it's ok for another 20 - 25 miles.
Went a bit silly when I got back, bought the 2nd helmet this year to try & alleviate the problem, a Shoei Hornet DS from 2-Wheels (on offer at 1/3 off). Am now at the stage that, if this doesn't work, Austin's Galloway Forest ride may be my last: riding is becoming a literal pain, where instead of enjoying the road / views, all I think about is how painful it's going to be, and hence I'm riding less & less. Not to mention the significant ££s I'm wasting trying to fix it.
Ironically, I'm also wondering if having my seat refilled has contributed by raising me up, but looking back I've had this problem for the last 4 or 5 years, & I've only had the @ for 2.
Apologies - not looking for sympathy, but there may be another @ in the FS section soon... (not to mention various screens, and size 'L' helmets)
Rob.

Intersting debate
Ok I am definitely not a doctor or anything similar but have done some reading and experienced a few things in life so -
Get you blood pressure checked by doctor and tell him or her that the pain comes on after 30 miles - it's beginning to sound like a stress related pain - causes can be anything from posture to plain concentration.
One thing not mentioned could be the bars position - try bringing them back so reducing the stretch and thereby giving you a more upright position - are you leaning forward a bit perhaps so helmet tipped down meaning you are looking up - this would cause tension - look at police riders - bolt upright back straight - ride heavy bikes all day - something in it.
I get a shoulder blade pain - caused by pressure under my left leg and on my Pan European gets worse and worse after 70 mls - bought handle bar riser and airhawk seat and big improvement. BUT on AT I don't get the pain at all!!!
Tension causes all kinds of problems and front of head is where it might manifest itself.
Have you had any neck injuries? I went for an X-ray recently and was asked if I had damaged my collar bone?! Not related to why I was being Xrayed they seemed to notice some damage!? I have come off so many times off road in my younger days probably done some damage but never went to see about it - we pay in later years (I am 54)
So check BP
Are you stressed - work etc - thinking about stuff while riding
Are you stretching over the bars
Are you gripping too tight
Are you sitting comfortably
Any neck problems
Eyesight - forgot this one - what is it like - had it checked
The body is designed to protect itself so it tries to tell us somethings up in strange ways - perhaps you are missing something and so it's decided to blast you between the eyes with it!
Oestheopath or Chiropractor can be worth a visit - try for a sports injuries one as they are more sympathetic to the need to continue
Hope some of this helps but really I hope it's something far simpler - try an open face helmet for a ride and see if that makes a difference.
Good luck but stick with it - it's the body so can be fixed!

Hi Rob
I'm at Galloway in a few weeks. I have the Powebronze taller screen. What might be an idea is to take mine for a ride on the Saturday evening with your seat on and then do the same my seat to see if there is any difference.
You'll then have a Powerbroze screen with your seat to see if it's the screen. You'll also have the Powerbronze screen with my seat to see if it's a combination of your seat and screen causing the problems
See you there

Would be interesting to see if anyone has a decent solution for this.. I'm only 5ft 10 but the AT is the worst bike for wind noise/pressure ever.. I put it down to my helmet (Shoei Hornet DS Sonara) but I test rode some Ducatis a few weeks ago and they were all FINE.. no pressure and less noise, even on bikes with no screens... I don't understand it really... I guess the AT screen directs air straight into the helmet??
Buffeting and noise is bloody tiring![]()
