Recently i had been having problems with a flat battery, i narrowed it down to a fried R&R which i replaced, along with the old boiled battery.

Now, starting from 2 days ago (when i went through a 2 foot deep 'puddle') the electrics keep totally cutting out when i press the start button, i get a small flash and a tiny puff of smoke from the battery. If i turn the ignition off and wait about 30 seconds, turn the ignition on again then the electrics come back on as normal, the bike most of the time still wont start, electrics keep cutting out.

If i shift my weight about the bike a bit, bounce on the seat etc then press the starter, it will burst into life like normal.

This sounds like a dodgey connection somewhere, but whilst indicating, the relay will start clicking like crazy and the indicators dont flash, this doesnt happen all the time, only sometimes. I must mention that when this happens 90% of the time the bike will cut out.

Also, the bike seems to cut out by itself with no lights on at all, no indicators etc. If i bounce about on the seat some more it will start again first time.

The bike ticks over okay, but when headlights are on it will keep cutting out every few hundred meters.

Does this look like a faulty earth connection?
