    wheels - price

Giving the bike a good clean yesterday and noticed the start of some corrision on the rear rim by the air valve. Assuming I can find some 2nd hand what sort of price should I be expecting to pay

Realise that I can use the services of wheel builders and have rims and spokes redone - any idea of cost - would prefer to avoid this if possible due to time

    thanks James

Dunno about 2nd hand but prices will vary, I had mine rebuilt by a local guy at £50 per wheel. Ordered the parts from Hegon and agreed a day when I would drop the bits off and had the wheels back in 48hrs or so. Parts were £100 for the rim and about £48 for the spokes. I also fitted a 3.5" rim rather than a 2.75 - now takes a 140 and looks better.
When I grow up ..... yeah right!

Y'see, I could say "You can go fast, I can go anywhere, Africa Twin" But you buggers have 'em as well so it would sound pretty lame .... oops!

Hi James the only problem with secondhand is the Rims that you get will just be a few steps behind your Rims.It is a well known fact the the rims are one of the weak points on Africa Twins/Transalps.There are a few places in Belfast and surrounding area who perform Wheel building. One that i used is Russells Motocross at Carryduff 02890817000 "in behind the Auction place " Another is Bells "i think he does the wheel building for Russells "who used to be on the Lisburn Road near the Kings Hall and Larence Spence in Moneyreagh 02890449996"used to be top motorcross racer".Francis

All i know is that i got a quote from Talon for a spare rear wheel for my GASgas and thatwas just over £300 ( and VAT will probably go up on Tuesday) so a spare in good nick should be a lot cheaper than that

    Re: wheels - price

A rebuild on a pair of wheels with new spokes and new rims is going to be something in the region of 150-200 UKP per wheel.

I wouldn't buy off ebay as you could get something in a terrible state, and they usually seem to go for over £100 which is hardly worth it.

Have a look at this thread:
    Africa twin wheel info/answers

I've used these chaps, they did a nice job and did it on time! They fully recondition the hubs (powdercoat, new bearings and seals), and you can have stainless spokes and new rims in various colours. They also managed to provide rims in the right sizes for an RD07, which is more than some wheel builders seem to be able to (that thread I linked to mentioned 2.15 from rims, but they do stock size 1.75 rims too). Contact them for details.
