thanks all for the above...
air filter new as are the plugs
going to rotate the fuel filter and avs me a look at the choke.
might leave the tank for a bit as just filled up...still if i dont sort it it wont be full for long.....![]()

I'd absolutely suspect the chokes in the first instance.
You need to check the complete assembly, from the lever, down the cable to the splitter, then two cables to each carb. Then check the plungers and the springs in each carb. Usual warning, DO NOT break the plastic nuts holding the chokes in the carb, otherwise you'll be buying an expensive new assembly!
After you've fixed it, you have to remember that the AT engine is an old design, so not the most economical thing. Saying that, 200 miles from a tank should easily be achieveable and if you ride smooth you'll get maybe 20 or 30 more than that.
Thrashing away from the lights, revving the tits off it, or staying at 80mph plus on an AT and you will see your MPG plummit.
Good Luck

I say it’s the chock
I only got 90 miles on a full tank….. and on 110 miles it kept on blowing spark plugs.
The choke is a big problem, and even a new one doesn’t last long….. and then get stuck again.
I can’t do without it, it’s too cold in the mornings.
chokey dokey!!
Had the choke appart and blasted some 3 in 1 oil down untill it dripped out of the carb ends on both sides.....didnt seem stuck but at least its done and the action is a bit smoother.
easy to get to isnt it!!!!!
checked all the breather hoses and they are fine..
going to check the flow from the tap on reserve to see if its a bit blocked now..........after ive had an oily cigarette![]()
ok checked the tank and the tap chucks a load of fuel out with the tap in the "ON" and "RES" position. so i guess ill just run the tank down and see if:
A: fiddling with the chokes improves mpg
B: fiddling with everything else helps running on reserve
thanks for you asistance fellow twinners![]()
Agree with the choke plungers idea - I removed mine a few years ago - blanked them off completely and really improved fuel consumption. Would look at that.
I removed mine a few years back and since then i get between 210 and240 miles from full to to the start of reserve thats town riding i get a lot more on a good run
So if i were to blank of my chokes how have you done it and how would you get it started on a cold morning??
if were to blank off i guess i would take the plunger off and put them in the hole and put a bit of silicone over to blank them off...??

Remove choke assembley,
take plunger and spring off cable,
replace plunger and spring and hold in place with a 'pad pin blanking screw' from the front brake caliper's. (I got new ones from honda dealer for a couple of quid each.)
Do this with both carb's.
It can be a bit tricky to start in very cold weather.
I used a stronger shorter spring so its easier to get the blanking screw in position.
Keep the plastic bits safe incase you want to put chokes back in winter.
you can fit stronger springs to cables (if you can find some).
Spark plugs will probably be black so worth changing while you have tank off.
