Stainless bolts can be used for any application if you get the correct grade of stainless. You can also check out the supplier if you ask for the certificate of conformity.

I was waiting for a comment from you Jason. Spot on - decent stainless bolts will have the tensile strength on the heads - 8.8 is probably the correct tensile strength, depending on the size of the bolt (8.8 up to M.
There are some issues when screwed into aluminium, but nothing worth worrying about. The 10.9 (tensile strength) are too brittle and may well shear when used on critical moving parts. Always go to recognised suppliers (Wurth!), as some bolts are not made to any spec at all.

This thread was originally about bolts on EBAY.
If you can get bolts from a proper source, then they should be correct for the purpose, but buying this type of thing from EBAY would not be advised as the grade is not certain.

Why do people always assume ebay is cheap ???????? it's easy to get things locally and just as cheap if not cheaper amd better quality than ebay you just have to find the right places.

I avoid ebay like the plague

I use e-bay quite allot but not before checking the price on things in my local bike shop, if there's only a fiver or so in it i much rather put the money over the counter of a bike shop.
This is an example of why

I had a puncture within the first half hour of a long days ride and used my spare tube so popped to a bike shop i use regular and there was a massive que so i shouts to the owner from the back chuck us a rear tube and i'll pay you next week over it came and i was on my way that is quality you cannot get from e-bay

back on subject i just ordered all new bolts for the front and rear disc's on my AT at the cost of £30 from my local honda dealer i like to buy genuine when i can afford it because whatever numpty had the bike before me put some crap aftermarket bolts in there and i can't find an allen key to fit properly their all just a little too small i'm sure their e-bay s4it.
Also on the front speedo drive side when you put the wheel on and leave the fork leg clamp loose so the forks can be aligned properly the heads of the bolts clash with the caliper mounting bracket so i have to pull the fork leg out sideways so it will clear, which i dont like as it means the forks are not clamped up in their natural resting position.

I also use EBAY for certain items, mainly Vivariums and plastic fasteners, I would however use a proper supplier for things such a bolts for mountings for a bike.

Stainless steel bolts is one, they may be good for engine casings but for mounting discs or sprockets, I do not think so.

Nothing about Ebay on here stumpy. just the general overstatement about not using stainless bolts.

And yes alot of the anodised bolts from pro bolt are tat, but the stainless disc bolts are fine - I use them on my busa and on my 660 tenere without a problem....
