    RD03 coolant.

    Hi all.

Just bought Iltr Castrol concentrated coolant to do a change. Is the mix 50/50 as per haynes and workshop manual? Bike shop man thought this was too strong. Can i use tap water to mix/dilute? bike shop man reckons you dont need distilled as tap water is pure enough. Should i flush the system with hose, if so is it just a case of filling form top of rad and letting it drain through and finally how do i bleed any air bubbles from the system? Anything else i need to be aware of? Thanks in advance, Li.

I use de-ionised water in mine.
Tap water does contain particulate matter, look at the base of your kettle.
If that gets into the cooling system it could cause problems later on.
The standard mix on my Transalp is 50/50.

Flushing only needs to be done if the bike has not been used for a while.
There is a product that can be used, it has some additives to remove fur.

As for filling and removing air the trick I use is fill the bike form the radiator and run the engine with the cap off.
As the engine gets hot the thermostat opens and the level in the rad keeps dropping just top it up until it stays at the top level.
Turn the engine off and allow to settle top up if necessary and replace the radiator cap. check the coolant level in the reservoir.
