    Much, much better RD03 brakes

Just in case anyone is feeling underwhelmed/terrified by their brakes:

Finally did the last stage of my front brake overhaul/upgrade; replaced the master-cylinder piston... what a difference! Feels like another big step, similar to when I fitted new discs and pads, no longer will I go sailing past junctions!

Difficult to compare but I'm sure the brakes are now in a similar league to my twin disc Transalp. Really positive, no strange lever squashiness, nice and progressive, really pleased.

    Complete set-up now consists of:

    New Grimeca discs
    New Brembo carbon/ceramic (soft) pads
    Goodridge braided hose
    Overhauled master-cylinder
Overhauled caliper (new piston and seals)

As I've done the whole lot, spread out over a several months, I can't say what worked especially well individually but overall a vast improvement on the old tired brakes. For me the moral is that I don't need to be looking (as I was) at expensive Brembo master-cylinders and calipers any more; result.

    Cheers
    David

The front disc was about £85, the pads were £20ish. I think the master-cylinder overhaul kit was around £15 plus a few washers/fluid and bits and bobs; probably spent about £130 all in.

The front discs needed replacing anyway so it was all really running costs rather than improvement/modification.

I think the main improvement is probably just looking after and servicing the brake. Brembo pads were definite improvement over EBC though. Went for the Grimeca discs partly as OE disc supply was patchy at the time and also as a bit of an experiment.

Thanks for that. I've a mot coming up and can feel some brake work is needed first, so pleased to see your post - gives me some ideas and some clue as to the possibilities. One of the most useful posts (for me) i've seen for a while. ta.

Glad to have been of service. (It doesn't happen very often!)
