Help Please - Crash Bars - Mounting Bolts

Just got round to fitting what I think a Ricky Cross Crash bars (Had them a while in my garage) to my Project Simba (RD07A), The engine mounting bolt (M10 X 250mm) is too short for the crash bars. Should there be a longer bolt with spacing collars with these bars? I can mount one half (LHS- gear lever side) no problem, but the other side (RHS) I am struggling with. The bar is about 4 cm out from the Bolt which means a longer bolt is needed. So my question is to people who experienced this before, which I think the case, A longer bolt is a must + collar spacer of some kind and would these come as std with the bars??
Any idea if I can source one out from somewhere or have it custom made?
    Cheers

Hi mate, All I can think of whilst trying to understand what you are looking at is perhaps the bars aren't for the 7A. There is a width difference between Africa crash bars for the RD04s and RD07s. At least that is what I discovered a while ago with an older RD07 I had, I bought some cheap bars knowing they were for the RD04. I had to get a mate to push the bars in to the frame whilst I put the bolt in as the bars were wider than the frame.

If you do get a longer bolt with a spacer inside the bars, would this not hinder tour leg whilst on the bike?

Hi Mutley..You could be right here.. I have asked myself same question but yet the SW bars I have on my other bike came with a longer Bolt in the kit. At the moment the bars are touching the exhaust header and not lining proper with the bolt, At least a gap of 3 to 4cm is need with a collar in between.. I will take some photos tomorrow this will explain my dilemma..

I suspect I have an unused SW Motech longer bolt for the RD04. Do you want me to measure it?

Hope you get the bars sorted before this Saturday! Although the terrain we are covering isnt too extreme there is potential to drop the bike. I have dropped mine on several occasions, mostly in daft scenarios...like whilst parking the bike on a down slope then going to open a gate only to hear the bike falling behind me....and a few sliding on wet grass on slopes....but all low speed.

If it turns out the bars are not for your bike heres a cheap alternative - only question is would they arrive in time for this weekend. When I ordered mine they arrived in 2 days (I think). They take a couple of hours to fit...or did for me.

HONDA AFRICA TWIN 95-98 BLACK Givi ENGINE GUARD - £71.16 - Motorbikes and Parts - Givi / Kappa Motorcycle Luggage Specialists - honda-africa-twin-9598-black-givi-engine-guard-p-18238.html

GIVI bars, £71.16 inc postage, says takes 2-5 days via DHL. They are the ones that attach near the footpegs and Ive heard bad reports about them trapping the leg if the bike goes down...but so far they have been good for me. When dropped they bend (meaning you have to bend them back into shape) but have saved my fairing on a few occasions....and for £71.16 I think they are a great buy.

Thanks Mate for the heads up and advise on the Givi bars. I have SW Motech fitted to my Other @ in which I will strip down and use on this one (This one is ready for off Road ride hence the swap)
I'm still hoping to sort the Ricky Cross bars at some point soon..
Looking Forward to Satrurday and "Not" dropping my bike
