    Re: rear wheel bearing

I have had this problem and have been running a hub for years like this so don't be disheartened. I had a wheel bearing let go so forcefully I thought I'd been hit by a car from the rear and to the side when on the motorway. Your hub has more bearing seat than mine.

It looks like the bearing seat needs a clean up and can be shimmed up using a spacer washer that needs to be flat ground to the exact gap you need to make up. You also need a new inner spacer.

02 RD07a RWB, Powerbronze tall screen, Remus Grand Prix, TT crash bars, TT pannier frame, Zega style panniers, Alpos top box,TT bar risers, TT headlamp guard, Heated grips, mainstand, Heidenau K60s for road and light offroad, TKC80s for the dirty stuff, Scottoiler, Autocomm, TT Zumo mount, Zumo 550 and most of all A BIG GRIN !!! Oh, and a very nice RD04 HRC coloured Marathon Replica

That to me looks like the inner diameter of the bearing centre was too big and has passed over the tube when side force is applied, the bearing centre should be smaller than the centre of the tube so the two surfaces are against each other with the bearing taking the tube in the centre of it's race. That looks like it was able to pass into the bearing between it and the spindle and wear out hence the bearing was able to move in and knacker the inside seat of the hub. Have you checked the size of the bearing? where did you get them from? Have you still got it so you can compare it to a correct one or the fit to the spindle?

It can be machined out and sleeved back to the proper size with a step in the sleeve for the bit the bearing sits up against. I'd guess at a cost in the region of £50 to sort it out but you'll need someone who knows what they are doing. Buy a new spacer too along with the fresh bearings and hand the lot over to your engineer.

    Re: rear wheel bearing

Looks like side-loading causing the bearing to break up and then seize. It then spins against the axle and they try to friction-weld themselves together.

£8.91 seems a bit steep for a 6203-2RS bearing. That FAG bearing (assuming that's the box it came in) is designed for quietness and low friction - ideal for a washing machine.

    Re: rear wheel bearing

the people that built, powdercoated and they put new wheel bearings in for me put the sprocket carrier spacer in the wrong way,it should have gone in on the inside of the carrier and not the outside like they put it,its been a very costly mistake, thanks all for your replys and cabby for the video link, must have watched it 5 times before i sussed it out

    Doh!

Actually, it looks to me like the sprocket carrier bearing is fitted in the hub and the hub bearing is fitted in the sprocket carrier.
