    Xenon on RD07!

Have anybody installed Xenon bulbs on Africa?
    I DID!

A couple days ago I bought a pair of some Chinese made H4 bi-xenons. The sticker on the box says that it is 6000K, so it gives very bright white light.

The transformation by electronic means was pretty easy. The biggest problem was where to hide the ballasts, and all the long wires This kit was intended to be installed into car, not motorcycle

The bulbs are almost touching the inner glass surface of the headlight, but luckily, they fits! I connected them both to be on in the same time.

There was some alignment needed, as the lights was shining upstairs more than needed. Simple adjustment on the alignment screws made it OK.

The final result is FANTASTIC! Specially when raining, the asphalt surface is BLACK. No more poor yellow headlights!

I recommend everybody to do this installation. On auction, I grab a kit of pair (two pcs) for only 85 euro.

A picture of were you installed the ballasts would be appreciated as I will possibly do this job during this winter.

Well, if you would like to stuck to ordinary wolfram H4, I suggest you to go to NIGHTBREAKER. I had them before I installed xenons. NB gives much more light than ordinary H4 bulbs. They are also manufactured by OSRAM. Ofcourse, no modification needed, a simple replace of the existing bulb.

I don't know the electric installation on Varadero, but on most Africas, there is no relay for the lights, and the current is going through the switch on the handlebar. I had this situation on my old RD03. Therefore, I installed a separate wire that goes directly to the battery, and the existing installation only triggered the relays. Much more power comes to the bulbs on this way and it gives much brighter light. Additionally, all the current goes through the relay, not warming unnecessary the switch.

I suppose that there is a relay already installed on your Varadero, ar least for long beam light. Check this on your Varadero for every case

It looks that I messed something up with the tripmaster when I squeezed the wires It's not working, even the backlight does not want to come up. I hope that only some wire is broken, or connector plugged out.
I have to remove the plastics anyway, so you're lucky I will make a photo of all the installations and wires Tomorrow will be the day for it.

I wasn't too worried what they were i just wanted something a bit brighter, the originals were starting to go dull/ slightly yellowish but after 10 years i can't complain, i don't want to keep changing bulbs as a habit i just wanted replacements but will find out next week what they are like

    Kjell,
    here are the promised pictures:

I hope that you will see from the pictures where I put the ballasts.

My luck, the tripmasters connector was pulled out from the socket

Yes, I can see clear and sound!
    Thanks!!!

Is there a reason why you have different lenses?

One is better for main light and the other for dip?

Also, do the ballast get hot?, I was a little bit concerned about the heat so close to the cables

Thanks again for the effort with the pictures!

    Re: Xenon on RD07!

The ballasts gets hot, but not too hot They are just fine, I noticed no burned wires or anything that is produced by heat. I've installed the xenons before 4000 km and no problems at all.

Well, there was one problem, but it vanished after locating the ballasts as seen on the pictures. The ballasts was placed on top of each other, and they were closer to the tripmaster. Not every time, but very often, at the moment of turning on the lights, the tripmaster reseted itself. Rarely it hanged, so a reset was needed.

Different lenses are installed in the factory, as only one was intended for short beam. But, I wired them to turn on both on short, as well as on long beam. It works great

I'm glad that I helped with the pics

Aha, as we are allowed to have both lamps on, my @ has identical lenses.
