    Re: Honda front sprocket

I recently renewed my front sprocket. I was advised to go for an original Honda front sprocket but the shop ordered me a none original part. I fitted it and havent had a problem.

    Re: Honda front sprocket

AT as well as the TA can have issues with the splines on the output shaft.

(To tight chain adjustment will cause rapid wear on the splines)

Badly engineered non OEM sprockets can worsen this wear, even though the adjustment is okey.

Some non OEM sprockets do not have the rubber cushion as the OEM has.

I'm positive that also some non OEM sprockets works just as well, but I do not know wich ones.

If you like to play it safe, go for the OEM sprocket.

If you need to change the gearing, make the change at the rear sprocket were there is no problem with any splines, and thus you can use a non OEM rear sprocket.

My two pennies worth. / Kjell

sorry to interfere, but just noticed those rubber sides on the front sprocket today when stripped. never seen that on other sprockets. is that just honda? must serve some purpose! think its best to stick with what the chapswith the thick glasses and white dustcoats took years to figure out!

    Re: Honda front sprocket

JT sprockets are fine. They are just as tight on the splines as genuine.

No aftermarket sprockets have the rubber on that I know of. All it does is quieten down the chain noise from the front sprocket area so it's not really critical.

    Re: Honda front sprocket

Yep, I only ever fitted a pattern front sprocket once. It was a 'JT' and it seemed fine.

A knackered output shaft would effectively write my bike off though, so now I only get Honda front sprockets, just to be safe.

    Re: Honda front sprocket

I was told the after market front sprockts are harder than the Standered Honda front sprocket.

if none standered front sprockets are used you get the ware on the out put shaft that in the end will cost ££££££££££££ to repair.

My AT as only ever had standered Honda front sprockets and there is no ware on the poutput shaft

When we checked a friends who used after market sprockts there is a far bit of ware on his out put shaft.

The Honda front sprocket is only about £10 more than a after market one.
