RD03 Front brake binding after overhaul

    Hi all,

Some of you might remember I had some issues getting my RD03's front caliper overhauled (as in everything that could me stuck, was stuck).

Eventually I came to the point where I had to bleed the system to get nice firm brakes. As if it would be so easy.

After hours of bleeding I still can pull the lever to the bars. More so, I even managed to get the front brakes to bind totally shut whilst test riding . I had to open the bleed screw to unlock the front wheel. So I thinking air in the system, right.

I tried the normal bleeding, I trief leaving the lever pulled in with a tie wrap overnight. Holding the caliper at the highest possible point didn't help either.

I TRIED to reverse bleed, but I could not press in the brake fluid by means of syringe. I mean I had to push so hard the fluid leaked out of the connection of the tubing with the -bleed nipple. Am I missing something here?

So is it really just air, or is my master cylinder kaput or something else.

Help is, as always, greatly appreciated.

It sounds like the master cylinder needs attention. With the lever fully out, the fluid should be free to be pushed back into the reservoir. The fact that you had to undo the nipple to release the pressure shows the master cylinder is not allowing the fluid back.

just had the same issue.. stripped the master cylinder and it had loads of gunk in it. there is no ways you can have an air issue with so much bleeding. either its the master cylinder or the bottom calipers getting stuck. they pit corrode, and gets lots of stuff inside. take them of, ad blow the cappilers out with air, clean, lube with clean brakefluid and re-install. must say i did all of that and they got stuck after i put in new pads. will check mine this week while i re-assemble my bike, and give you feedback if any. best i find is to never brake!
