fuel pump orientation - quick question

    Hi all
Just fitting a standard fuel pump I picked up from wemoto and noticed that the orientation between front and back is different to the original. I've baffled myself now trying to figure it out. Which is the inlet on the pump? Is it the open one or the closed? My guess would be the open but I thought I'd run it past you guys to be sure.
    Thanks, Steve

Not sure if this helps but AFAIK the side with the electrical connections faces forward.

Thanks for the quick reply Lootch. I think I may have confused things with my thread title. Looking at the inlet and outlet on the pump, one is open and one appears to be closed. Which of these is the inlet that the hose from the tank attaches to? Is it the open one or the closed?
    Cheers, Steve

you are not mad, the outlets swapped sides after Honda updated the pump for a problem it doesn't have, never has had and never did exist (well according to a nice letter they sent me in 2001).

If you do a search it's been mentioned on here before which way round it is on the two types of original equipment pumps.

1 Varadero/17,000 miles ridden (of 40,000 miles on the bike), it's all still new to me!

Don't know, but there's only one pipe each side so if the orientation is right it should work. If there's still some fuel in the carbs you could hook the pump up, start the engine and feel which side is blowing and which side is sucking to confirm.

Great, thanks guys. I had a browse of the forum before I posted but mostly got facet pump threads. Will dig it out.
