is it possible to upgrade the alternator for better charging capabilities and the possibility of running 2 batteries.

Seems excesive, what power to you plan to draw
another battery could be charged via a split charge relay they are used for boats and campervans to charge the leisure battery and leave the starter battery fully charged.

HID lights could lower your output and improve your lighting

Cool!!!! And with 3 batteries the tele, PC and the vacuum cleaner become possible.

Ha ha I am intrigued as to why you want a fridge with you - how big is that thing?

I looked into camping fridges recently. They will kill a car battery in a few hours. No point thinking about one unless the site will have electricity

Whats wrong with the good old fashion bucket of cold water to keep things cold in or go camping in the winter then you won't have to worry about it

How about one of these - a solar powered coolbag! Not tried one though.

Another thing - I used to have, in fact still do in the attic, an evaporation cooler/fridge. It is an Ali box insulated with absorbant polysterene sandwiched between an outer ali layer. You absloutely soak it and stand it in the sun. Put stuff inside the box and as the sun evaporates the water so cooling takes place - ok so a problem finding sun in the UK during the summer but great at all other tmes of the year these days as it seems to shine then!

    And this DIY - http://www.inhabitat.com/2009/01/12/...emily-cummins/

You say that and it made me remember, When we went on my stag week to th esouth of France it was really hot when we stopped in a services we got a couple of 2 litre bottles of water from the fridge and i put them in my Hepco ali side boxes and they stayed ice cold ( same temp as when they were in the fridge) all day the boxes are great for keeping things cool the aluminium reflects the sunlight
