    Choke

Guess how much a plastic choke valve is. The one that sits at the end of each choke cable? 41 F**kin quid. The bloke asked how many I wanted!

I am afraid I bought it as I have to keep my bike on the road almost continuously. The original snapped of clean where it screws into the carb body leaving half in and half out. I swear all I did was push the choke cable gently whilst removing the valve cover on the front cylinder and it just went. Must have got brittle. I glued it back together and didn't use the choke for about a month but it came free again on the way home from work. Makes the tickover quite high when you stop at the traffic lights but didn't seem to affect it over about 30mph so I got home ok.

Anyway took the opportunity whilst regluing it (waiting for the new one to arrive) to finally fit my Mikuni vacuum fuel pump. Works a treat and only £50ish from Africa Queens. My second Honda pump was stuttering after 51,000 miles. It was the supposedly upgraded pump after the first failed completely at 42,000 miles.

That's really generous. The part arrived this morning though. Thanks anyway, if I break the other one I'll be in touch. I nearly trod on it as I came in through the door in motorbike boots. It consists of the little plastic screw-in body, the spring, the metal choke piece, a plastic elbow tube and what looks like a metal inner elbow tube. The last is a brass colour so I'm going to tell people it's 24 carat gold so they won't take the pee when I tell'em how much it cost.

I'll say this for Fowlers, they keep a good stock of spares and are normally very fast. Oh and the bill came to £44 in the end.

On the fuel pump subject, I seem to be getting better mpg since fitting it, but it might just be the poxy weather making me ride more carefully.

Fowlers.... Fowlers...... don't talk to me about Fowlers.. the robbing b**ta*ds (allegedly of course).

Remind me to recount my story of my stolen AT and the quote that Fowlers came up with to repair it.

    Grrr feck... mumble.. mumble..

Tell me all my son. Unburden yourself. (Was it stolen for the choke assemblies, that would drive the repair bill up somewhat?)

Just fitted the new choke valve. I'd forgotten what a poxy job it is. Just enough room to get two fingers in, a tiny turn of the plastic body and then you have to release the thing to get a fresh grip. The spring then pushed it back out. Not only does this cause frustration but the start of the plastic thread gets slighty chewed each time. Needle pliers don't help either. Still it's in now and has increased the bikes value by £44.
